October is window covering safety month.
Two strings of razor blades dangling from a window. They are the window blind cords. It is terrifying. The text reads: Are your kids living with corded window blinds? Window cord injuries vary from a scar around the neck, to quadriplegia and permanent brain damage. On average, 8 young children a year die from strangling in window blind coverings with cords. If you have kids, go cordless. Cordless window blinds are safer for kids and in stores now.

On this most important National Coffee Day, coffee carefully.
A horned demon emerging violently out of a cup of coffee. The text reads: 2500 ER visits associated with electric coffee makers or teapots from 2020 to 2024. Injuries included but were not limited to: various burns and scalds from spilling hot water from coffee pots, touching hot coffee pots, exploding espresso makers, tripping over cords while carrying coffee, and lacerations from broken coffee pots.

Sometimes people think it's OK to run a generator in their garage with the big door open. It is not. CO can still build up to deadly levels. Move the generator outside and 20ft away from your home.

If you are preparing for Imelda and own a portable generator, make sure your have working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home. One portable generator can produce as much carbon monoxide as hundreds of cars. CO is a deadly gas you can't see or smell and can kill within minutes.
