I still have the US uncorrected proof of this book sent to me by the super cool @jesselawrence.bsky.social. Then I purchased the deluxe signed edition in velvet filigree. Both editions are dear to my heart. Let’s see if the adaptation makes it into one its chambers too.

Yes, I agree. If you forget why you started writing, you run the risk of losing the spark & drive. I LOVE telling stories & that's what drives my writing. The ideas that excite me, the characters I create, the worlds they inhabit... it's all about the writing. Otherwise I can't think clearly.

I really feel this. That's why I've been writing stories for myself this year without any plans to publish them. It's helped my state of mind because at the end of the day, it's all about the writing.

Exactly. I felt (unsure if this is common) that I forgot why I started writing. That middle section, that fire in the gut to be read, becomes the spur that pushes you forward. But you’re not really writing for you. You’re writing for others. I think once you realise this, you get better.

Then I wrote to make money.
Then I wrote to have an adaptation.
Then I wrote to keep distracted.
Then I lost my way.
Then I stopped.
Now I write because it heals.
