Well the fresh updates from #A2Council to the East Medical x Fuller Rd really seems to have failed for #pedestrians and #cyclists ... to nobody's surprise... That's what the #onemorelanebro mentality will get you.

Btw for those that do, feel free to use these pics for advocacy.

Last night another vulnerable road user was killed in Ann Arbor. Gather at 201 E Huron St (parking lot) tomorrow (05/07) at 6:50PM for a die-in to tell City Council that safety can't wait. #a2council
Photo of a massive die-in of bicyclists in Amsterdam in 1977. Text of the flyer reads: Protect human lives now! Slow the cars, narrow the roads, MDOT out of A2.

Die-in. Wednesday 5/7 @ 6:50 pm. 201 E. Huron St. On Monday might a driver killed a wheelchair user while he was crossing 5 lanes of Huron St. in a crosswalk. A week before, on the same street, another pedestrian was hit.

Timeline:
2015: “Ann Arbor adopts pedestrian safety report, sets goal of zero fatalities by 2025”
2023: “Official crash data for 2023: Worst Year for Ann Arbor pedestrian crashes since 2014
2025: On track to be worse than 2023, with at least 10 serious injuries and deaths in the first 4 months.

Ann Arbor is changing traffic signals so Flashing Yellow Arrows (FYA) don't direct left-turning drivers through crosswalks that peds are using. Huron/Division, where a man was hit on 4/30, hasn't been changed because it doesn't have beg buttons. Turn off FYA until it can be done safely! #a2council

Yes--Canada is doing it better. The current regulatory environment may not be good for adopting a new requirement like Canada has, but we can still raise awareness about this problem now, laying the groundwork for regulatory improvements in the future.

Video footage confirms that the vehicle in the October, 2024 Packard/Arch pedestrian crash did not have headlights on. Think you won't make the same mistake? Don't be so sure--it's a common error. Take a minute to access your vehicle's manual and read about how the headlamp controls work. #a2Council

At the site of the fatal pedestrian crash of 3/11/25, Plymouth is 73' wide. Picture shows how far a vehicle driving at the speed limits can go in the time it takes a person to walk 73'. Plymouth is too wide and too fast to be safe for pedestrians. Demand Action: Narrower, Slower, Xwalk. #a2council
Google Maps view of Plymouth and Green roads. Yellow highlighting shows how far a vehicle traveling at the posted speed limits of Plymouth (45MPH) and Green (35MPH) can travel during the 15 seconds that it takes a pedestrian to cross Plymouth. The vehicle in this crash could have been well out of sight on Green Rd. when the pedestrian decided to cross Plymouth.

Ann Arbor's stated goal is zero deaths and serious injuries from traffic crashes by 2025. We're not going to achieve that goal on time. But we can achieve it soon, if we start looking at the causes of the crashes and implementing real fixes. Demand action. #a2council
