Fall warbler migration is slowing down here (Columbus Ohio USA) but I still had 6 warbler species today.

And I do love October-- it's time for the kinglets, creepers, White-throated Sparrows, sapsuckers, and butterbutts (Yellow-rumped Warblers) now!

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a dark and intricately patterned woodpecker. The bird is black with bold white spots on the back, black and gray stripes on the head, and speckled gray belly. It is on the edge of a tree trunk.

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle type. The bird is gray-brown overall, lighter off-white on the throat, belly, and tail. It is backlit among the bright green leaves.

one thing I learned during 2020 is that "less than lethal" munitions are explicitly designed to be shot into the ground so they lose velocity and bounce up into people and the reason I didn't know that before is literally NO ONE has ever deployed them that way.

Reporter's notebook: I actually began working on this story shortly after footage of the incident showed up last month.

But by the time I finally got ahold of folks, the story grew: 2 *other* faith leaders I spoke with *also* reported being shot w/pepper balls while protesting this ICE facility.

Amazing morning with Red Hill Birding and the Fort Sheridan hawk watch, and then finally seeing a Lapland Longspur after noticing a Discord post at 4:15 about someone spotting them on the beach at 2:45. Birding rewards giving it a go, even if the bird could be long gone. :) #birds
