The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer by Jennifer Lynch: I first read this when it was released in 1990, anticipating the clues about Laura's killer that might be within. Instead, I got a much darker and more graphic version of the show I was obsessed with. #TwinPeaks

Now playing:

Rob Zombie: Hellbilly Deluxe (1998)

Still probably my favorite of his solo albums. This one is a “glow in the dark” vinyl!

Today’s commuting pick:

Big Big Train: Are We Nearly There Yet? - Live Around the World

Part 2: The Lives of Others

#BigBigTrain

Supernatural 8x04: "Bitten": At one time, a "found footage" episode was almost obligatory, wasn't it? Now, it's a gimmick that needs a strong story or premise to really work. Thankfully, I feel like this episode meets that criteria. #supernatural

This week's comic book haul:

The Amazing Spider-Man: Torn 2
Star Wars 7
1776 1
Star Wars: Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon 3
Star Trek: Lower Decks 13
Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories – Tides of Terror 3
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The Seeds of Salvation 3

Down Cemetery Road 1x04: “My Friends Don’t Like Me”: While I appreciate some of the changes from the source material, I still feel like this adaptation tries to be too much of everything. It really works for me when it's serious with a dark comedic edge. #DownCemeteryRoad

Joe Country by Mick Herron: The sixth volume of the Slough House series, this story harkens back into the history of the series as the past comes back to haunt a number of characters. It also follows up on The Marylebone Drop in a major way. #slowhorses

Today’s commuting pick:

Genesis: BBC Broadcasts

Disc V: Knebworth 1992

Talamasca: The Secret Order 1x04: "Wet Work": I'm not sure this series knows what it wants to be. When it was playing at being a supernatural spy caper with a very novice main character, it worked on a certain level. But this episode plays things a bit more off-kilter. #talamasca

IT: Welcome to Derry 1x03: "Now You See It": We get a sense of some of the earlier "cycles" in Derry, which to me is more interesting than some of the attempts at scares. Honestly, the lore might actually be the part I enjoy the most. #ItWelcomeToDerry

Inspired by True Events by Tee Morris and Phil Rossi: I wanted a fun collection of ghost stories for spooky season; this turned out to have a lot more variety than I was expecting! There are some haunts to explore, but beyond that, there are also some cryptids to encounter.
November 10, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Babylon 5 4x10: "Racing Mars": A bit of a transitional episodes, moving several subplots forward in some important ways. But it doesn't quite work as well as it should; I blame Captain Jack, personally. Which is too bad, because the Marcus-Stephen double act is a lot of fun. #babylon5

Today’s commuting pick:

John Wetton: Adama: Live in Amsterdam: Part 2 (1997)

Disc IX of the Concentus: Volume One box set

#JohnWetton
November 10, 2025 at 1:21 PM
Pluribus 1x02: "Pirate Lady": The second episode fleshes out the rules and new status quo for humanity, introducing us to some of Carol's fellow outliers. And none of them are as hostile to the new world order as Carol. In fact, Carol is viewed as a bit of a problem (for good reason). #pluribus
November 9, 2025 at 9:50 PM
Pluribus 1x01: "We is Us": I was expecting something a bit more light-hearted for some reason, so I was very happy to see that it leaned into something a lot more unnerving. I would even say that this was more effective horror for me than, say, the current IT series. #pluribus
November 8, 2025 at 5:32 PM
The Marylebone Drop by Mick Herron: A short story set between London Rules and Joe Country, this continues where The List left off. John Bachelor is once again prominent, as the worst agent to somehow avoid Slough House. But another agent is not so lucky. #slowhorses
November 7, 2025 at 11:47 PM
Star Wars: Visions 3x09: "Black": Shinya Ohira and David Production produce one of the most experimental entries in the entire series. The entire episode feels like an abstract fever dream, and is something left open to interpretation. #starwars

Now playing:

Asia: Phoenix (2008)

The return of the classic lineup!

#AsiaBand
November 6, 2025 at 7:16 PM
Star Wars: Visions 3x08: "The Bird of Paradise": In the penultimate episode of the season, Trigger produced a stunning bit of storytelling. Much of the story revolves around an internal struggle between light and dark, and the animation beautifully depicts this conflict. #starwars

This week's comic book haul:

Batman 3
Star Trek: Red Shirts 4
Doctor Who: The Prison Paradox 1

Peter Gabriel: So (Deluxe Edition)

Disc 2: Live in Athens 1987: Part I

#PeterGabriel
November 5, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Down Cemetery Road 1x03: "Filthy Work": I had to check the number of episodes, because they are streamlining the first half of the book in some major ways. We are getting some reveals much sooner than expected. On the other hand, Zoe is more prominent in this version of the story. #DownCemeteryRoad
November 5, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Star Wars: Visions 3x07: "The Smuggler": Studio Trigger delivers a solid Star Wars tale about a smuggler finding a path to the Rebellion. It's a little familiar, but it works based on the strong character work. #starwars
November 5, 2025 at 3:55 PM
The Witcher 4x02: "Dream of a Wish Fulfilled": It feels like the season is still setting things up, though it is all relatively easy to follow. Perhaps the most important thing is Geralt's encounter with Regis; I hear Regis is a fan favorite. #thewitcher
November 4, 2025 at 3:34 PM
Star Wars: Visions 3x06: "The Lost Ones": Another entry from Kinema Citrus, this one is a bit more serious than the previous installment. A surviving Jedi tries to save refugees from a dying world escape the Empire, which means facing her former master. #starwars
