Next #FolkHorrorFriday, we are watching GRETEL AND HANSEL by Oz Perkins. Not my favorite Perkins film, but I'm eager to revisit the striking visuals.

9pm ET. Free to stream on Tubi.

Black folk horror for Black History Month with BLACULA (1972) and SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM (1973). The vampire has long been a symbol for rich feeding on poor, but Blacula neatly tweaks the formula to tackle white exploitation of Black bodies. William Marshall brings a commanding screen presence.

Tomorrow! 9pm ET, we watch HATCHING (2022) for #FolkHorrorFriday. Free to stream on Tubi!

More Black American folk horror for Black history month. Candyman (1992) made Tony Todd an icon, and with Candyman (2021), Nia DaCosta made history as the first Black woman director to debut a film at number one at the US box office.

It's Black History month, and while folk horror from a Black American perspective can be a bit sparse, there are several works (films and books) that I'd like to highlight over the next few weeks.

First up, a classic: Bill Gunn's 1973 take on vampire lore, GANJA & HESS.

I am very excited to revisit THE LURE (2015) with you all tomorrow night, a wonderful and gnarly Polish musical about mermaids.

Highly recommend HORROR NOIRE: A HISTORY OF BLACK HORROR on Shudder. Great documentary that will make you despair for how much incredible talent we've missed out on due to racist gatekeeping and biased storytelling in the film industry.

Hello! I've finally made a decision about tomorrow's #FolkHorrorFriday movie: HOWARD'S MILL, a mockumentary that is far better than it has any right to be. Join us tomorrow at 9pm ET. The movie is free to stream on Tubi!

If you're in the UK, Rabbit Trap hits theaters this Friday, January 30. Recommended if you're interested in folk horror, the fae, hauntology, and things of that nature. A totally trippy time, starring Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen. Here's the trailer:
