This evening, my church, First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights hosted an interfaith vigil for survivors of gun violence and a call to action to end gun violence. I was asked to sing and I sang “Bring Him Home” from the musical “Les Miserables.” My mom accompanied on piano.❤️

I am pleased to report that at today’s Village Board meeting, the Arlington Heights trustees unanimously passed the ordinance to prohibit ICE on Village property. There are limits on what an ordinance actually does, but it is an important statement of our inclusive values in AH❤️
Today (Yesterday) I spoke at the Arlington Heights Village Board Meeting calling on them to protect immigrants and to draft an ordinance prohibiting ICE on Village-owned properties. 30 people spoke in favor and none opposed. The ordinance passed unanimously 8-0. That was just to draft it

I celebrate that the United Methodist Church approved language to no longer allow discrimination against people with disabilities in the church. It is a good first step, but laws do not change hearts. We need honest efforts of listening and giving leadership voice to people with disabilities.
