In light of the new Exarch lore and one of my headcannons becoming canon, I decided to share this little tidbit.

The blue crystal set in Y'sato's eternal bonding ring is from G'raha's crystal arm. A shard given willingly and freely.

You can on certain ones if you take too much supplement like I did 😅 I took too much D vitamin, double and even triple the daily recommended amount, and I did so for months. You don't feel it with certain vitamins like D until you've taken too much for a prolonged period.

What a shameful display he must make, once more breaking down before the Warrior, his dearest friend.

Yet there is no judgement. No scorn or reprimand to be heard as tears streaks down his cheeks, squeezing his eyes shut in the progress.
Instead Y'sato presses his forehead softly to his. A familiar loving gesture they have done oh so long ago...

During Halycon days, in Mor Dhona.

Furthermore Y'sato takes hold of his crystalline now trembling hand, holding it to his chest, a gentle understanding smile gracing his lips as he closes his own eyes.

Unable to speak, to do anything but choke back his sobs that threatens to spill free the Exarch intertwine his fingers with Y'sato's own.

And so he stays, holding onto Y'sato's other arm like a lifeline, Y'sato's hand on his left shoulder. Steadying, reassuring.

He have done naught to deserve such kindness, such understanding. Not after everything he have wrought, and yet here it is, and given to him so freely.

With this simple, yet profound gesture Y'sato conveys more than words ever could.

Yet no matter how skilled he think he is in masking his hurts, Y'sato isn't blind to them. Something The Exarch found for himself one sunny day following the fall of Hades as Y'sato invited him to one of his usual spots.

And so Y'sato did!

And even more surprising G'raha's own life was spared. A life he had been preparing for so long to cast aside, to sacrifice to save him. A worthy cost. A righteous thing.

And yet something even more surprising happened. Something he never expected. Nor dared to hope for.

That day, mere weeks after the fall of Hades Y'sato reached out for G'raha's crystallized arm and to its warm stony surface he gave a most tender, loving kiss.

The gesture alone, the sheer tenderness behind it steals the breath from him, the Exarch's ears pricking at attention, his eyes wide. As thoroughly crystallized as his right arm is at this point there is not much sensation left in it. Just this faint echo, and usually a stubborn persistent dull ache, and yet in this very moment he swears he can feel Y'sato's lips. The warmth of them leaving an imprint on the very crystal.

And even more surprisingly, close to the spot where the crystallization first began...

Nuzzling it and holding onto his hand with utmost gentleness Y'sato opens his eyes at last to peer at him, and within those green striking depths everything is laid bare.

He doesn't need to speak the words.

"I can't take this pain from you, but I can help shouldering it. Soothe it. This burden is not yours to carry alone. Not anymore."

Y'sato he knew. He could tell all along. In the face of such an honest admission, such love and genuine care for his wellbeing the Exarch carefully maintained composure cracks, crumbling apart at the seams.

Before he can stop them tears blurs his sight, a painful, all too familiar tight sensation taking hold in his throat.

Day 27: Pain

The slow crystallization of the Tower is an agonizing one for the Crystal Exarch, yet he bears it with nary a word of complaint. It was a sacrifice gladly made, his flesh traded for time, him having to suffuse his crystallized parts merely to move.

For nigh a century he toiled, ever enigmatic, ever shrouded in secrecy. He only dared pull his hood back when he was certain he wouldn't be disturbed, once he was certain his concealing spell was strong enough to hold, to hide him from any prying eyes.

Before his robed figure towers the Crystal Tower, and at its foot lies the proud Crystarium, ever defiant in the Everlasting light shinning down on them from above. A sight that haunts their ever waking moment.

Staff in hand he looks upon the very city he helped founding with a solemn, downhearted expression, his ears downturned under the weight of it all, the immense burden he carries.

After all the moment is soon at hand, the moment he will attempt his summoning of the Warrior of Light at last. So much hangs in the balance, such crushing weight rests on his shoulders. The grief of so many people lost over the years to the ravages of the Sin Eaters weights on his heart, but he has to stand fast, to endure this pain.

Sato must survive, no matter the cost!

While offering his blood for the spirit vessels, the Exarch, working tirelessly as he was, promptly fainted.

Y'sato took him to his suite, his love still fatigued from the fainting spell so he might regain his strength.

Day 7: Crystal

Due to his crystallization, the seams where crystal meets flesh are extremely sensitive. As an effect of this he has frequent flare ups and pain.

For a lifetime this was all he knew.

Until a certain someone taught him it doesn't need to be so⬇️

This new Exarch story, the lore. All I can say is I'm astounded. Utterly astounded cause it lines up so well with what I have in mind for my writing on the First!

Especially when it comes to his crystal arm. What I have in mind, was cannon all along!

Today have the effect of the Primals on Freya, the Lichtenberg scar on her back is from Ramuh, and the burn on her thigh is a memory from Ifrit. Since it was one of her first fight she wasn't as proficient at dodging

A comic-style page of photos. The Exarch sits and looks at Soren with a gentle expression, while her eyes widen at him. "Worry not, my friend. Though I am no warrior, I have learned to hold my own over the years."

His voice drifts into the air, echoing in the massive halls of the crystal tower. "When we first explored this tower, as you led the van to victory, how I wished I could join you, not just follow in your wake."

He smiles brightly at Soren, looking into her eyes - perhaps right into her heart. He touches his hand to his chest - "but now I have. Here where we began."

Looking down on the two miqo'te, the Exarch continues. There's a bit of magic in the air. "I was right to trust in the power of your legacy... of your name."

Soren's eyes widen - you see nothing else. "My name..." she thinks. Her mind wanders back to sitting in the Pendants with him, when she couldn't find the words for her affections.

Further back, to signing up at the adventurer's guild, and of leaving a piece of her in the Southern Thanalan desert to start anew. To the Scions, standing in the Rising STones, when Minfilia and Papalymo still breathed. To leaving Ul'dah with Alphinaud after the banquet.

SHe returns to the present, her eyes squeezed such in concentration...
