"What young people need now is not new schemes, it’s consistency, it’s someone they can trust enough with their best most aspirational self" - @njgriff.bsky.social AE CEO

Can you donate £2 a month to help keep our mentoring & community projects running?

Pink print of The Arts Emergency Manifesto with 11 points written alternatively in red and blue:
1. Be fearless. You are just as entitled as anyone to have the life you want.
2. There are things that are bigger and better than money. We have things that those in power will never understand.
3. We take it as a given that a civilised society values education, lifelong learning and creativity as a public good.
4. Fight the conditioning that tells you to demonise young people.
5. We are a social justice not social mobility organisation. Arts Emergency is no substitute for justice withheld.
6. To think creatively and critically is to free yourself from the limits of an unfair society puts on you.
7. There is no recession of the imagination.
8. The future is another place. Allow yourself to believe a better life is possible. Say it loud, defiantly, to everyone.
9. Be generous. Now be more generous. Share your privilege.
10. Do something. Start small, start local, keep going.
11. Optimism is a weapon and if all else fails be silly.

‘Storytelling, movement, theatre – these are tools of survival. Tools of healing. But only if done with care’

Artistic director of Cardboard Citizens Chris Sonnex (‪@csonnex.bsky.social‬) calls on the industry to prioritise artists' well-being when making worked focusing on trauma 👇
Chris Sonnex on protecting artists who create theatre from trauma
Stories of trauma might sell but the process of bringing them to stage can be damaging for artists. Chris Sonnex urges the industry to remember its duty of care

Evey experience is different. We’re looking for monologues that cut through the statistics. What matters is that they’re authentic to lived experience.

I’m profoundly sad to say that as of today, I’ll no longer be able to do my job as co-artistic director of #Touretteshero because of a recent decision by #AccessToWork to cut my support by 61%. Read & share this post, the hardest I've had to write: www.touretteshero.com/2025/05/23/a... 1/4

Hi, Labour Party. Perhaps instead of leaning into fascism because you’re scared (or in agreement) of the influence that Farage has on people, give the people a better alternative that they can believe in, perhaps based on hope and creating better futures for people who can’t see futures right now

I wanna see more of this energy thanks

Come on, all my family with lived experience, this one’s for you, and if it ain’t, share it around.

We’re launching an open call for bold monologues from writers with lived experience of homelessness & poverty. Stories that challenge stereotypes and inspire change.

Selected pieces will be published by Nick Hern Books, alongside new writing from Malorie Blackman, Chris Bush & more.
