Victory! Gov. Newsom has signed AB1264, a food safety and school nutrition bill that sets a clear definition for “ultra-processed food," and will eliminate nutritionally unhealthy foods and products containing unsafe additives from cafeterias while pushing food companies to improve their products.

Instead of ousting health officials who stand up for scientific integrity, fire the source of the chaos at HHS – RFK, Jr.!

In an extraordinary joint statement, 6 former U.S. Surgeons General warn:
RFK Jr. is "endangering the health of the nation.”

We’ve previously called for RFK Jr.’s resignation, this moment confirms why. Patient health must come before politics.

Opinion | Six surgeons general: It’s our duty to warn the nation about RFK Jr.
We took an oath to declare dangers when we found them. We’re doing that again today.

America's strip malls and Main Streets are filling up with these "hydration spas," with little evidence that they have any health benefits as well as little regulation at the state/federal level.

We are excited to share a recently published study in @jamainternalmed.com which investigates state-level policies related to intravenous (IV) hydration spa regulation. Information regarding the safety of IV spas is limited (1/5)

“Consumers deserve transparency about what’s in their food and drinks,” said Dr. DeAnna Nara, licensed nutritionist and campaign manager at CSPI. “With the Sweet Truth Act now in effect, New Yorkers can make more informed choices for themselves and their families."

As of October 4th, the Sweet Truth Act gives New Yorkers the ability to see at a glance when menu items exceed safe limits — a policy that research shows can reduce consumption of high-sugar items and encourage companies to reformulate their products.

Excess sugar intake is linked to several leading chronic health issues, including heart disease. In New York, heart disease remains the leading cause of death. If current trends continue, chronic disease will cost the state $2.2 trillion by 2030 — nearly $7,900 per resident.

On October 4, New York City’s landmark “Sweet Truth Act” went into effect! This new act requires chain restaurants with 15 or more locations nationwide to post a clear warning icon next to menu items that contain more than an entire day’s worth of added sugars.

The FDA has approved just ONE new food additive in the last ten years, but grocery shelves are full of flashy new products with new ingredients. If the FDA isn’t approving all of this, who is? RFK, Jr. has said that fixing this regulatory loophole is a priority, but the MAHA plan falls short.
Is RFK Jr. walking the walk? MAHA Report promises updates while New York acts on GRAS
If the FDA isn’t approving the novel proteins, stabilizers, and artificial flavors in foods, who is? What to know about GRAS and a New York bill that could close the loophole for good.

CSPI is urging for a swift shutdown resolution to ensure critical food safety and nutrition programs are operational! The longer a shutdown lasts, the greater the risk of impacts across our nation’s food system, including impacts on important programs like SNAP and WIC.

“Make frying oil tallow again!” said RFK, Jr. And just like that, Steak ‘n Shake switched from frying in seed oils to frying in beef tallow. Influencers sing beef tallow’s praises, but is it really healthier than seed oils?

Food systems and food policy changes are largely an organizing challenge. Even when we have the best research and logic on our side, change can’t happen unless we gather a critical mass of advocates who demand action from policymakers.

That’s where faith communities can make a big difference.

Casey Means, Trump’s nominee for U.S. Surgeon General, is wholly unqualified.

If confirmed to the role, we expect her to continue to promote her breathtakingly unscientific opinions about vaccines, birth control pills, raw milk, and autism.
