1/ New report from @bentleyallan.bsky.social's Net Zero Policy Lab: As the US withdraws from green tech industries and pressures allies to follow suit, China is stepping in to power the developing world's energy transition. The scale is staggering.

Stephen froze like a deer in the headlights and pretended to have connection issues because he unintentionally gave away the game plan.

“Plenary authority is complete, absolute power over a specific area or issue, with no significant limitations."

Show people this clip. This is an insane slip up.

I spoke with @cnbc.com about digital store labels and their impacts for US retail: efficiency gains, automating a thankless task (changing price tags is like watching paint dry except more labor-intensive), but also challenges related to transparency and fears of surge pricing.
How digital price tags could change the future of grocery shopping
The rising popularity of electronic shelf labels in U.S. grocery stores could pave the way for dynamic pricing in brick-and-mortar food retailers.

Whether or not we’ve hit Peak Oil, we’re well past the point of Peak Oil Employment in the West.

And even with automation to support exploration, drilling, and operations, that dwindling workforce spells secular decline.

1. More Americans work at the Cheesecake Factory than in the entire coal industry, and that won't change. It's because of automation, not snooty libs.

2. Coal energy is now more expensive than wind and solar.

3. So this means: higher energy prices, more pollution, no jobs benefit. Genius!

People like me, who have spent a lifetime building credibility, face a real problem when most Americans no longer trust institutions. We need to face the new terms of trust for our expertise to matter. Renée DiResta@noUpside & I wrote this to explain why & how: carnegieendowment.org/research/202...
For Expertise to Matter, Nonpartisan Institutions Need New Communications Strategies
To avoid irrelevance when they are needed most, experts and nonpartisan analysts must rethink not just their channels of communication but also their theory of influence.

2 things that Senator Thune could have done to protect the farmers in his state, & in neighboring states: 1-oppose Elon Musk killing USAID; & 2-oppose tariffs.

He had the power to do that, but instead he was much of a coward.

Thune: "We've got a big harvest coming in here in South Dakota, corn and soybeans, and no place to go with it ... we are looking at potential solutions to make sure we can help support farmers until some of those markets come back."

Reading between the lines (isn't hard) report got shelved because it featured a heavy dose of climate change and (I suspect) language on democratic backsliding.

Everything can't be optics. Reality is insistent. And processes like climate change have all the time in the world.

We do not.

If you're an international pharmaceutical manufacturer who wants to build a plant in the U.S. & employ Americans, you have six days to identify a site, get governmental approval, purchase it, & break ground if you want to avoid a 100% tariff. Sounds like a rational way to conduct trade policy.
