Should go without saying but the point of diversity in hiring is to find _better_-qualified candidates outside of stagnant social networks that don't reward merit, like the kind of network that would put an MTV personality with a marketing degree in charge of the Department of Transportation

It sounds like this buyout is backfiring to some degree. Check out this Reddit thread: www.reddit.com/r/fednews/co...

So much for congressional independence. What spineless cowards. Why are they paid?

“Do you really want the president going to your district and telling your voters that you are the one that is preventing him from doing what he was elected to do? I don’t think so"

Senior Republican Warns House Trump Expects Total Loyalty—or Else
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer had a grim warning for his colleagues.

This has been tried before, during the Reagan years. Only the good ones with bright futures on the outside and folks about to retire took the offer. It was like getting an organizational lobotomy. The department limped along for years after that.

Trump reportedly will offer buyouts to all 2 million federal workers
The White House’s plan to offer “deferred resignations” that pay departing federal employees their salary through Sept. 30 will likely run afoul of rules governing buyout payments.

This is insane.

It's like one of those drive-in B movies where people's brains have been taken over by worms from outer space.
Just the <checks notes> Chair of the House Appropriations Committee going on the record to say that appropriations statutes “are not a law.”

The United States Congress, ladies and gentlemen.

He was lying when he took the presidential oath of office; it has clauses that restate section 3 of the 14th.

And within 24 hours of swearing the oath again he gave aid and comfort to insurrectionists. The 14th says "shall not... hold office..."

Is he actually the president? Serious question.
Skipping the demand to show the literature supporting a claim about birthright citizenship, we have now moved to the “well, the Supreme Court said so” phase of the academic discourse.

The justices are now final arbiters of law and truth, I guess.

Circling the wagons, truth be damned.

Trump just speed ran an article 14, sec 3 disqualification. He publicly swore to uphold the constitution, then a few hours later publicly "gave aid and comfort" to convicted insurrectionists by commuting their sentences.

Is he still President?

I'm serious. Any legal minds want to weigh in?

I don't think this is what the MAGAs were sold. In their minds all asylum seekers are criminals and "illegals," but she's just a regular person trying to follow the law.
The first visual of the Trump presidency at the border; a sobbing woman in Ciudad Juárez stands outside the Paso Del Norte port of entry, clutching a pole as she weeps having learned that her 1:00PM appointment for a chance to seek asylum in the US has been cancelled. x.com/arelisrhdz/s...

Is anyone else getting the sense that we are watching Trump do a flying face-plant on day one?

Most of the stuff I'm hearing is not achievable. A the end of 100 days, what will he actually have? A broken government, his signature initiatives stalled by lawsuits, and what else?

This is a screenshot of an app I wrote over Christmas. I am working on. Chris's room has a clock with circle-of-fifths labels on the face, but it's in Chris's room. I wanted one on my phone. If there is interest I will publish it in the iPhone App store. This is the Major/flat look.

Matt has a bird feeder on his window. The other night it was visited by a flying squirrel. We've been here for almost 15 years and never seen one. This was so cool!

The dude was very chill. His fur was not really hairy; it was smoother, like velvet. And yes, that's snow on the ground.

The craziest thing is, by comparing it to the updated image (pic b), you can actually see the dust rings getting farther away from the star, at almost 1% the speed of light.
