Not everyone believed me when I wrote that Trump wants Greenland becuase it would make him feel important, but that's what he told the NYT:

When asked why he needed to possess the territory, he said: “Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success"

Asked if there any limits on his global powers, Trump tells @nytimes.com "Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.” He adds, “I don’t need international law.” www.nytimes.com/2026/01/08/u...

The Trump Regime Smear Machine is now a taxpayer funded venture that smears victims of state violence by justifying their killing. This should be familiar, it is a common practice in the aftermath of police shootings of black people (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Trump’s invasion of Venezuela is many things, a few of them good and many bad, with most of the latter yet to be realized. One of the main things it is: Yet more attempted conditioning of the American people and the world for American autocracy.

This is Trump’s peculiar genius. He gets virtually everything he wants by simply speaking it into being. Which, in turn, to him, renders it ‘legitimate.’
It all might make more sense if he actually were drinking. But Trump, with his "alcoholic's personality," seems even less inhibited in a way that has many in Washington shaking their heads and wondering if the leader of the free world has lost it. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/u...

I also have been assuming that the primary purpose of this conflict is domestic
I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along

A state service branded to the leader is a hallmark of personalist governance. Benefits appear to flow from Trump, not the institution. Citizens are repositioned as clients. Well-being becomes linked to political allegiance. The Constitution recedes, and Trump becomes the perceived gatekeeper.
