Great video, and it's uplifting! It's a bit of a generalization, but basically: kindness breeds kindness, even in the face of meanness.

I do wonder, though - what if the network has a lot of mean bots pretending to be people and throwing off the balance? Maybe just assume mean people are bots...

Marry and merry have different pronunciations.

Two new layers for the bin. This baby can hold so much compost!
A rectangular compost bin in front of a fence, between two short trees. The bottom three layers of the bin are aged gray. The top two are fresh wood (beige-ish, pine maybe).

I hadn't been following it until this talk came across my feed.

Apparently, the messages on the 3rd party signal-like app were exposed, publicly, unencrypted, for anyone who was looking. The separate issue with Signal itself is about record keeping laws.

I love this. It seems so bland, and yet, it was bots!

Cracker Barrel Outrage Was Almost Certainly Driven by Bots, Researchers Say
Doesn't that make more sense than lots of people caring about Cracker Barrel?

These must have been in Spain, and good flavor or not I would have gotten them to try, and because Jamón is a great word.

I have a deep-seated urge to try chip flavors that I haven't had. The most recent was Argentinian Style Steak Lays; the aroma was on point, taste was like beef stew, and after four or five chips, it was just muddled chip flavor.

I have no recollection of the chips in this photo from...*2022*
A purplish bag of Sabor a Jamón Ruffles chips.

This is such a good talk. I'm not a cyber person, but the story is clear and plays out like something from a movie. The big one, so ridiculous that I'm worried I misunderstood it, is that the "fake signal" app that Hegseth et al. were using exposed everyone's unencrypted messages online.

My DEFCON talk "We are currently clean on OPSEC" now has over 30k views on YouTube, so now more people watched my talk than attended DEFCON itself. If you haven't seen it, please do! The Trump admin's incompetence is mindbogglingly BONKERS www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFYy...

The college ones surprised me - I guessed the numbers wrong. I'm disappointed that people got some of the others so amazingly wrong. Numbers are hard, I guess. (...and, bigotry?)

I heard people are also bad at demarcating between $100k & $1M; $1M & $1Bn; and think "rich people are like me!"

I just learned this today: the prominent door in the Epstein jail video is *not* his cell! His cell is way in the background, out of view.
lizardrath.bsky.social
“A staircase is visible on the left, and in the back, a dark, blurry patch marks the correctional officer's desk. To the right of the desk is the faint outline of part of the staircase leading up to Epstein's cell.”

Note: main door in video is NOT door to Epstein!
billkristolbulwark.bsky.social
“A CBS News analysis of the video the FBI made public earlier this month reveals that the recording doesn't provide a clear view of the entrance to Epstein's cell block—one of several contradictions between officials' descriptions of the video and the video itself.”

If a dictator hires competent individuals who are pro-human rights, the dictatorship probably won't last. If the dictator hires incompetent people who share their predilections, will it all fall apart because of incompetence, or will they learn on the job?
d-winker.bsky.social
They say it's better to hire someone you like working with who doesn't have the skills you need than it is to hire an expert who doesn't work with others. The idea is that technical skills can be trained more easily than personalities can be changed.

So I wonder, does it apply to dictators?

This is the first thing I hear people complain about. It's true, but I think it's funny. I think there are many other issues, but it's amusing that bureaucracy is top of so many lists.

Changing the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War could cost taxpayers over a billion dollars.

I introduced a bill that would require those dollars to come out of Secretary Hegseth's travel budget.

Taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook for vanity projects.

Admittedly, there might be some bots, foreign influence campaigns, and people from outside the US. (There was a post about tipping, for example, where US vs everywhere else is a critical detail).

Snapchat's public stories are a cesspool, but they are very much *not* an echo chamber. I think that's why I keep looking - I think, "nobody could actually think that," and there they are, thinking that.

The wood carving tools are great!
d-winker.bsky.social
When I carved pumpkins as a kid, I would either use kitchen knives or one of those carving kits. Some time later, high school, I guess, I used a box cutter for more detail. After I got a dremel, I used that, but it gets messy. Last year, I finally looked into it and bought some wood carving tools.

It's almost Halloween, time to get spooky!

(This was one of last year's pumpkins)
A korok from the legend of Zelda, breath of the wild, carved into a pumpkin. It has a five pointed leaf for a face, it's mouth is slightly open, and it's raising its tiny arms into the air.

who really likes nuclear weapons, no joke, they might see it as their fastest way to salvation. Obviously, killing everyone is a pretty bad move under most religions, but that's never stopped the super-religious.)
