Especially with threats to not even give back pay, what's the point of going to work?

Just utter chaos

four types of private schools in america:

1) catholic schools for racists
2) nondenom schools that dont teach you science
3) hippie schools that dont teach you to read, inexplicably 87% matriculation @ top 20 colleges
4) hogwarts, costs 55k/yr, explicably 99% matriculation @ top 20 colleges

Having gone to a really shitty private school is so funny. People hear “private school” and rightly think my parents were well off but instead of playing lacrosse or whatever I was learning young earth creationism from a Russian antisemite in portables outside a church

I can never see mention of carbon offsets without thinking of when the VP of Facilities at Georgetown described them as "buying indulgences" at a Sustainability Advisory Committee meeting.

She wasn't wrong...

If you are serious about guns and social justice there are groups that are having these discussions. I implore you to seek them out (I'm not going to link cause there are feds on here).

Do not hop into random people's mentions and say shit like, "that's what the 2nd amendment is for"

I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Never before in American history has one state's military force been deployed in another state over its objection.

I say never because the Civil War involved states whose governments legally ceased to exist, their offices vacated by constructive resignation, with no legitimate governors to object.

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities
