I have read This nonviolent stuff will get you killed. I understand the role of guns in the civil rights movement.

This is not the same as hoping into a random person's mentions telling them to arm themselves.

Also, I live in a city in a state with pretty strict gun laws.

Whether or not I own a gun is between me and my city. But assuming I did not - as most NYC residents do not - It takes just under a year to legally get a gun.

Look, I'm not ignorant. We live in a country with pretty ambient violence. But I fucking implore you to pick up a book about fighting for democracy that isn't just about WWII because lots of people have found a way to find freedom that doesn't involve mass slaughter.

It's actually kind of crazy to me how in the past two days people in my mentions have basically said we should accept being killed by the state as a consequence of fighting for democracy.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

You can happily have a discussion about the pros and cons of an armed populace in the face of fascism elsewhere because that's not a point I'm arguing or am qualified to discuss.

This whole discourse is super weird to me when from context clues it's clearly evident that what I'm saying is if you want to talk about gun violence in blue cities you need to talk about where the guns are coming from and that's overwhelmingly red states.

We’re drifting toward civil war, so I think figuring out how to coexist is pretty existential. And more of us should be considering the merits of armed self-defense.
