By “the Dems” I take it you mean “Black voters”? Because Clinton won the primary in no small part by being the clear favorite of Black voters (aka the base of the Democratic party)

Also: super premature.

at this point in Bush’s second term, people barely knew who Barack Obama was. And if they did it was “guy who gave that great convention speech”

The ideal nominee for 2028 may not even be on anyone’s radar yet

He also attracted catastrophically low support from Black voters (i.e. The Democratic base). I like Buttigieg a lot. He was an effective surrogate in 2025 campaigns. But the idea that he is obviously the choice for 2028 is, i think, doubtful.

On the one hand, we got something wrong. On the other hand, something wrong will no longer be happening. I'd say that balances out on the karmic scale.

And yes NYT has run many stories featuring Trump botching facts, saying the wrong word, etc. Although I don't recall anyone else getting the "um...er..." treatment.

Celebrating the birthdays of the three people most responsible for the first, second, and third founding of the US makes a ton of sense.

Hence Washington, Lincoln, and King

He’s also never won a competitive election. Or held federal or statewide elected office.

I mean, I like the guy, but “checks every box” is a stretch.

Obama’s landslide in 2008 happened in part because by his very identity — young and Black — he embodied Change at a time when the country was desperate for it — which I believe we will be in 2028.

Cool. I guess we've already lost then.

Gonna mute this now and get on with focusing on winning the midterms by large enough margins that the results are super easy to defend.

I think there’s a big gulf between gerrymandering and some of the rest of this stuff, like trawling DoJ files to release ones that are politically beneficial or hurting people by withholding funding if you think you’ll benefit electorally. For me personally at least.

Some folks would say this is all beside the point because we need different tactics to respond to a threat like this but these aren’t different tactics: they’re the threat itself.

It’s no different from Rod Blagojevich selling a senate seat. What did he do wrong if this is the model we expect our public servants to employ? And there’s a reason Trump pardoned Blagojevich: because he embodied that rot that too many are too quick to embrace.

There are extremely good reasons to want our public servants to act as stewards of our resources, including our information, and this frame, that they should take possession of it and use it to their political advantage, is fully Trumpist and fully depraved. (2/)

And per Vonnegut we must take care what we pretend to be. A lot of the Epstein stuff is a great example. “This looks like it’s gonna be damaging” has equaled “I am ready to believe every single interpretation of everything anyone says is from the files.”
