‘She is the daughter of immigrants,’ supporters of her cruel asylum policies say. ‘How can she be wrong?’ Let me put them straight, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

I think the real significance of Caerphilly is that once centre-left voters start accepting that they might have to vote for parties to the left of Labour in order to block Reform, then the entire basis for centrist political strategy since the 1970s is out of the window.

British politics is basically a doom spiral of increasingly unhinged hostile policies.

Reform says something unhinged
⬇️
Labour counters with their own unhinged policy
⬇️
Tories shout from back they'll be even more unhinged
⬇️
Reform announces different unhinged proposal in response

“A Purely Manmade Famine”: How Israel Is Starving Gaza
Jonah Valdez and the IRC’s Bob Kitchen unpack how Israel’s war and aid restrictions, not food shortage, are driving Gaza’s hunger crisis.

Seems like we’ve entered the period when the framing of the latest stage of the Gazan genocide - the famine, not as another avoidable but intentional phase in Israel’s strategy, but as some sort of natural disaster or act of God

The Hamas attack on October 7 was a horrendous crime against humanity. But the only relationship between it and the even greater crimes against humanity being perpetrated in Gaza today is that it is being used as an excuse for what certain Israeli ministers and generals have long wanted to do.

🚨 RIGHT NOW opposite Labour Party HQ in London.

We’ve turned their street into Jabaliya camp in Gaza. A genocide is happening, but the Labour government is supplying weapons, intelligence and diplomatic cover to the perpetrator. Protesting this is not terrorism.

Absolutely dystopian juxtaposition from the Guardian front page. Difficult to understand how anyone of decency and conscience can defend this government at this point. Just sheer moral degeneracy to arm a state that does this and arrest people for objecting. Wtf are we doing as a country?

If only there were half the outrage over Israeli soldiers shooting starving people queuing for food as there has been towards some rappers mouthing off at Glastonbury, we'd be in a very different place

So it will be illegal to belong to or even express support for a group engaging in non violent direct action to stop a genocide

But it will still be legal to volunteer for the armed forces committing the genocide, and to express support for them (as most in Westminster and Fleet St do)

This is what it's like to live in a racist society. If the perpetrator is white, they're just some lone madman whose actions have no political implication. If they're an immigrant - in particular a dark-skinned Muslim immigrant - they represent their group and are part of a political attack.

Incredibly depressing day. I've spent my entire life being told by British governments how dreadful immigration is. New Labour did it. The Coalition. The Brexiters. Now Starmer. All of them accusing the ones who came before them of failing to clamp down. The same old vacant mean-spirited bollocks.

This is an official plan for ethnic cleansing. If you supported Israel for the past 18 months or so under the assumption that this was about the hostages you were taken for a ride.

If you still support Israel's assault on Gaza, you support ethnic cleansing. It's that simple.
Israel plans to occupy and flatten all of Gaza if no deal by Trump's trip
Trump has effectively given Netanyahu a green light to do as he sees fit, Israeli officials say.
