The hypocrisy is clear. Banning gender-affirming care denies the bodily rights of transgender adolescents and defies respected medical, scientific, and mental health recommendations. The actual genital mutilation happening on intersex infants and young children, in the same bill text, is endorsed.

One proposed rule would punish hospitals that provide gender-affirming care to transgender youth by cutting off Medicaid and Medicare funding. This means a hospital could lose federal funding for all patients and services, even those unrelated to this care.
