STOP. Read this and please share it.

Many people have a narrow understanding of womanhood, and it’s hurting those of us who don’t fit their definition.

It’s also hurting anyone who doesn’t fit stereotypical standards of femininity, beauty, and behavior.

If you don’t understand, do the research.

Women are so much more than chromosomes, hormones, or reproductive anatomy. When a woman must be capable of carrying a pregnancy (many are not), have no chromosomal variations (like AIS), have a certain hormonal range (that PCOS doesn't fit in) — your definition of "woman" is too narrow.

Intersex people deserve to be their genuine selves, & Bearly is helping make it happen.

When you give monthly, you become a part of interACT's interCircle—a dedicated community investing in a world where intersex people flourish.

You can join the interCircle at interactadvocates.org/intercircle 👏

And what if we said PCOS is technically an intersex variation 👀

From now until September 26, you have an opportunity to tell the FTC the truth:

🏥 Gender-affirming care is life-saving treatment for intersex people, too (like Courtney!)

🚫 If the FTC really cared about protecting children, it would be asking about intersex genital mutilation (IGM) instead.
interact.bsky.social
We know that these claims aren’t true – meanwhile, the FTC has nothing to say to the intersex people and families who have had real experiences like this.
interact.bsky.social
ACTION ALERT! 📣 Right now, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is abusing its authority to wrongfully target healthcare for trans & intersex youth.

The FTC asked for public comments to bolster its false narratives about gender-affirming care, such as that trans youth & their families were “misled."
Courtney (they/them) Intersex young adult. Courtney smiles from behind a bouquet of flowers, wearing red-rimmed glasses and with dyed pink hair. I’m Courtney, a graduate student and writing teacher who enjoys fiber arts, bad reality TV, and good books. Because of my intersex variation, access to hormone replacement therapy is life-or-death for me. As someone living in a conservative state with ongoing challenges to HRT access, doctors have been wary to prescribe medically necessary, life-preserving medications for fear that such care will violate state and federal restrictions.

"Most people, when their child is born, they're expecting it to check all the boxes on being a typical boy and a typical girl [...] the first time they find out that there's anything outside of this is when their child is born intersex" - @addyberry.bsky.social

Very true—some intersex people were not told, many don't know until later in life. We need to end the barbaric practice of operating on infants and lying to children about who they are. ‼️

These surgeries on intersex infants are harmful, irreversible, and most importantly: done without consent. Meanwhile, trans teens have their consensual healthcare under attack. Trans & intersex solidarity is needed now more than ever. 💜💛🏳️‍⚧️

When babies are noticed as visibly intersex at birth, @thejinkx.bsky.social explains, "the parents and the doctor choose the baby’s gender, and they perform genital reassignment surgery on the baby.” “That sounds like what [we transgender people are] being blamed for doing!"

Opening up that she may be undiagnosed intersex, @thejinkx.bsky.social says we can’t yet have an accurate conversation about trans identity, because we have not even had the conversation about how many intersex people there are. 💜💛
