This isn't a high stakes meeting. It's an opportunity for FF members to act aggrieved.

The opening exchanges of the high stakes Fianna Fáil meeting discussing the presidential election are described as calm and mild so far. TDs voicing the hurt felt by party members across the country.

The initial story was that the Garda "counter terrorism unit" blocked her hiring in the first place. Which never happened.
daithig.bsky.social
That could be somewhat interesting

Can Gavin's votes be transferred?
daithig.bsky.social
Sigh, Maria Steen's main electorial pitch (at least in public) was that she loved the Constitution of something and here she is asking for the Presidential election to be postponed?

A scoop! Investigative journalism!

Turns out the tenant was a Deputy Editor of a newspaper in the Indo/Mediahus group. Oh.

Do you remember "votegate" when a FF TD was voting for someone who wasn't in the chamber? And then a rush of journalists asking every TD under the sun questions, even if they sat in the "wrong" seat. No such rush of journalists asking questions here.

Where did this story come from? Where else could it have come from except the Gardaí?
Is an arm of the state trying to interfere in our democracy?

People should keep asking Heather Humphries has she never had to sign her staff in on a daily basis? Everyone in the Dáil knows this is how it works.
daithig.bsky.social
I think she's implicated already? "Her judgment", "Her signing in people". If it's more "everyone does it, that's how it works" you could nearly have Connolly pitch it as a review of the whole system.
daithig.bsky.social
Just to clarify, I don't think the Garda are above reproach and it is an issue. There's a Garda up in court for leaking information at the moment!
daithig.bsky.social
I'm not a campaigner so that take this with a pinch of salt, but I think the "Garda leaking information is wrong" won't run because the Garda are generally seen as above reproach.

I think it would work to pitch it as the culture of Leinster House is to allow people work before completed vetting
daithig.bsky.social
Sure you have Irish journalists acting like that review was "non political" .

If I were an investigative journalist in the UK (are there any left?), I would be having a good look at the extent to which NHS leadership seems to have allied itself with a fringe medical movement that more or less condones conversion therapy. qnews.com.au/australian-r...

This has always been a extremely tiny screeching minority demanding that their bigotry dictate that no one else's children can learn of the existence of LGBTQ people.

1. 4 months ago, The Supreme Court gave families a right to opt out of LGBTQ+ education in schools.

Now, in Montgomery County, Maryland, where the case originated, the results are in.

Only 43 families out of 160,000 students have exercised that new right.

I always love when they'd call you Rory as if they've discovered that Superman is really Clark Kent.

I don't really know what Humphreys has accomplished in terms of a United Ireland. It all feels very "identity politics" from people who hate identity politics.
A LinkedIn post by Sarah Carey reads: “Olivia O’Leary asking some questions I too had wailed into the void. Why didn’t FG lean into her heritage rather than panic? If people are really serious about a united Ireland then electing an Ulster Presbyterian would be an incredible demonstration of what the new state could mean. Or have the Tones and Kneecap won?”

What do you mean "try"

I do feel if we were in a war with another country, Connolly would be the Ellen Ripley type, Gavin would be the soldier who ends up panicking, and Humphreys would be the corporate member who wants to capture the alien for her corporation.

So much for collective cabinet responsibility.

Back to the actual and current Presidential candidates -with all the Jim Gavin shenanigans of the last 24 hours it may have not grabbed people’s attention that Heather Humphreys just threw trans people under the bus in response to a Grift dot ie reporters question! So there’s that! #aras25 #speirgorm
daithig.bsky.social
I really don't want Trans people to be debated in this election. We all saw what happened with Casey and Travellers. I just wouldn't vote for Humphreys based on it.
daithig.bsky.social
I think Humphreys could be pressed a little bit more on housing and homelessness. She was a cabinet minister! This "I feel sorry for people without homes, isn't it dreadful" isn't really an answer.

I think they didn't have a pass but do now.
