You have influenced my practice - and I cite you and slow academia often! I wish you well!

Sadly the academia I entered such a long time ago has already been denatured - but I am lucky in that I believe in what I do and it brings me joy. Frankly if they delete me again this time around I won't be crushed, I hope, but I remember that feeling & worry about it hitting others #LTHEchat

I also keep copies of achievements, recommendations, 'thank you' emails, etc during all my jobs. Once you've left, you can't access the email for the one crowning statement of working with you that you wanted for your CV. #LTHEChat

A4 Tho initially skeptical I found coaching identified my skills and where else I might want to go. From a neurodiversity perspective (probably trauma too) I felt I had to over explain everything, even things nobody was likely to ask. So coaching rebuilt confidence and a clearer narrative #LTHEChat

#LTHEchat A5 I needed to know and believe that there were people that believed in me.

It is really awful applying for your own job - competing against colleagues and friends - feeling complicit in something unjust and plain wrong - and having little confidence that those ringing the changes know what they are doing #LTHEchat

It is definitely grief! As I said, the first time it happened to me after fighting so long for a post I literally felt I was nothing again! I have no work/life balance - I don't kow how to do that - so when it goes - it goes #LTHEchat

#LTHEchat A4 I don't know how to do this when fighting for a job in redundancy wars - what helped most recently was applying for a promotion - and both caring and not caring whether I got it or not - that released me!

A3. Keeping a routine of work/home balance, taking a walk at both ends of the day as my 'commute', closing the computer and resisting the temptation to check/look 'out of hours', etc. Talk to loved ones, don't save or store it up, share and listen, but also make sure they listen to you. #LTHEChat

'spite helped a bit'. Oh yes, don't feel bad about shouting many obscenities at the screen and imagined people. Your neighbours may look a little worried (mine do), but they also know what's happening, so are kind enough to keep on walking by (we laugh about it later).

I relate to that strongly. I was skeptical about coaching but did have some post-redundancy and it really helped remind me of all I could do and my capabilities. I was also surprised how much academia downplays what you can do - outside universities it's very different I'm glad to say #LTHEChat

Yes - I actually spent the first 20 years on annual or termly contracts - always desperate between the last spring and the first autumn payment! Life was so much more congruent with an actual contract! #LTHEchat
