I also keep copies of achievements, recommendations, 'thank you' emails, etc during all my jobs. Once you've left, you can't access the email for the one crowning statement of working with you that you wanted for your CV. #LTHEChat

A4 Tho initially skeptical I found coaching identified my skills and where else I might want to go. From a neurodiversity perspective (probably trauma too) I felt I had to over explain everything, even things nobody was likely to ask. So coaching rebuilt confidence and a clearer narrative #LTHEChat

A3. Keeping a routine of work/home balance, taking a walk at both ends of the day as my 'commute', closing the computer and resisting the temptation to check/look 'out of hours', etc. Talk to loved ones, don't save or store it up, share and listen, but also make sure they listen to you. #LTHEChat

'spite helped a bit'. Oh yes, don't feel bad about shouting many obscenities at the screen and imagined people. Your neighbours may look a little worried (mine do), but they also know what's happening, so are kind enough to keep on walking by (we laugh about it later).

Q4. CVs, applications, and “selling yourself” can feel especially hard at this point. What’s helped you tell your story honestly, without feeling you have to apologise, explain, or fake optimism?

I relate to that strongly. I was skeptical about coaching but did have some post-redundancy and it really helped remind me of all I could do and my capabilities. I was also surprised how much academia downplays what you can do - outside universities it's very different I'm glad to say #LTHEChat

#LTHEchat A3 I can see the younger union members fired up, ready for battle - for me, exercise and keeping in contact w colleagues online - is it worse this time cos now I mainly work remotely? Very possibly - definitely feels like I'm in the firing line alone ... even tho sadly I'm not
Q3. Wellbeing often takes a hit long before work officially ends. What have you found helps you maintain some sense of balance or stability while living with uncertainty?

#LTHEchat A2 after waiting 20years for my fractional post - after going thro interview after interview and being rejected - frankly I felt like "nothing again" - it was truly awful. All these years after that first deletion I hope I will face up to it a bit better next time!
Q2. In the early days of redundancy or deciding to take voluntary severance, what felt hardest, emotionally or practically, and what helped you cope, even in small ways?

#LTHEchat A1 I've been deleted three times now - each time saved by an amazing boss arguing for some posts to remain - and finally by moving me from Learning to Staff Development. Each time it's been harrowing & now the wolves area at the door again & my partner nplonger here to fight alongside me.
Q1. Redundancy doesn’t always arrive suddenly. For some it’s imposed, for others it’s voluntary severance made under pressure or uncertainty. Where are you currently, or where have you been, on that journey?

The death of the American way of life. They will do to you what they do to immigrants because to a hammer, everything is a nail.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

It’s book release day! I’m back on social media! I feel slightly awkward about it because part of the book is about how social media transforms your motivations for communication!

But honestly writing a book is lonely, weird basement-work, and now I want to talk to people about this weird jank.

the thing that makes the American public more complacent than we’d like, much of the time, is that not many things cause major disruption to our day to day lives

what ICE is doing in Minneapolis is likely the single most disruptive thing most folks there have ever experienced

they hate it!
The people seem to be turning against ICE, and that's probably because the president is sending them into every major population center and screwing with people's lives. Politics is often invisible, but this is not!
