Wasn't the recent exchange with Johnson and Rep. Dean something to the effect of "Trump is nuts" "Hey, some of you are nuts as well"?
dandadad.bsky.social
(Any politicians dumb enough to read my stuff may feel free to steal these lines.)

(Shorter version: "Some people say Trump has dementia. I'll leave that to the doctors to decide. All I know is that you can't trust him further than you can throw him...and that's not very far.")
dandadad.bsky.social
"Some people say Trump has dementia. I don't know about that. All I know is that he keeps taking Congressionally-appropriated money and using it illegally. So no, I'm not interested in making a deal. He's not a trustworthy partner in negotiation."
dandadad.bsky.social
"The Trump budget plan is just like any other time he does business. The only thing that makes any sense about it is how it helps him at the expense of somebody else."
dandadad.bsky.social
And the riffs just write themselves: "They say Trump is crazy like a fox. Well, they got the first part right, anyway."
dandadad.bsky.social
ermergerd, I just realized why "dementia" is such a strong frame for going after Trump: His unpredictability is central to his mystique as a successful businessman. Attack that, and you make his core strength a weakness.

The more I think about this, the more brilliant it seems. "We can't make a deal with someone who is out of his mind" puts Republicans in a terrible place. Deny the allegations and risk reinforcing them? Put Trump out on an ice floe? Stick tight to Trump and go down with him?

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

The latter. It was an accepted practice in some places for an elderly veteran to marry a younger woman. She would provide care to the end of his life, and in exchange receive his pension.

*All numbers rough estimates and possibly copied wrong from my calculator app. Actual populations:

- Gaza: 2.2 million
- Israel: 9.5 million
- US: 342 million
dandadad.bsky.social
The ensuing war in Gaza would have seen the equivalent of 11,457,000 Palestinians killed and 331,740,000 displaced from their homes, for a total population drop of 27,360,000. 2/3

Heard some figures this morning and did some quick math. If Israel and Gaza each had the same population as the US*, Israel would have lost 11,352 people in the 10/7 attacks, and seen 7,525 people taken hostage. 1/3

[Trump sends troops from Illinois to invade Wisconsin. Wisconsin: "Ehhh, we're used to it."]

"C'mon, it's Wisconsin. We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip right out again. We're not going to Moscow. It's Wisconsin. It's like we're going into *Wisconsin*."

—ICE leaders planning to invade Milwaukee, probably

I suppose if one wanted to be Whiggish about it, human history since the invention of writing could be described as a relentless, progressive search for ever-faster transmission of information, and the incredibly douchey things people do with their new capabilities.

One thing I think about a lot is how effortlessly cool Neil Diamond was in the 1960's and how much better off we'd be if he were president

Yes, I knew a lady whose mechanic husband had dementia. One morning she's laying in bed, hears him saying to a friend on the phone, "It's the damnedest thing. I've got all these tools and I don't know what they do." She shot straight up and took him to the ER, thinking he'd had a stroke.
