Excited to share this event honoring the first Virginia folk performer to get an Encyclopedia Virginia entry, Texas Gladden. We will share lots of music from the archive & have ballad singer Elizabeth LaPrelle speak to her influence in her work.

Winter garden check in. Things growing slowly, but really happy with how everyone is doing. I really love the winter garden. Ira Wallace calls it the outdoor refrigerator and it really feels like that.

Still getting nice sized turnips from the garden. We lost most of our daikon grow this winter to that one arctic blast, but these ones and the white Japanese variety did well under cover.

Definitely the most unique chip item
I’ve ever had. It’s like if you stacked bugles and rolled them up, then covered in a dust made of sweet creamed corn, and then added some sugar.

Sharing thoughts/process with these historic trees Im working with at patreon. This is a baldcypress that is upwards of 1000 years old along the Nottoway River. Also included a clip of an interview I did with big tree hunter Byron Carmean, who calls this cypress a “turnip tree” because of its shape.

For real this movie is the kind of portrayal of contemporary resistance that we need to see a lot more of in popular culture. It’s amazing.

…if beaches are lost to sea level rise, the few plants that are well adapted to the harsh beach environment will be lost. Habitat for…sand diggers, sand fleas, & beach tiger beetles will be lost. Shorebirds that rely on beaches for forage and nesting will face more limited resources.
