Just heard another one from before my time, spouse’s grandma cut off her fingertip and threw it in the garbage while people were away. On return, medical doc family members retrieved fingertip from garbage and took her to emergency room and had it reattached, successfully

Not precisely medical but there once was a fad of roasting turkey in a plastic bag to keep it “moist” and one year a family member thought “why not use a dry cleaning bag” and had to take the turkey out of the oven smoking covered in melted blue plastic and people ate it so maybe medical adjacent
