Terrible is, in hindsight, the wrong word. Inappropriate is perhaps more apt.

At the time, it was clear Moffat was aiming Who at a more adult audience, especially given the later timeslot. Who should be accessible to everyone. As a parent, this would be low on the list of episodes to show my kids

I can understand it in Season 7, especially the barbed comment about the Silurians in Ambassadors.
But by S8, apart from his outburst with the disagreeable Mr Chinn, he just comes across as a rude & patronising bore.
The Daemons would've been a 4-parter if he hadn't been such a pompous arse
