Los Angeles-based museum software developer. Fan of the New York Mets and hardcore/punk music.
There's a whole wing at the Met because of this.
Michael C. Rockefeller got shipwrecked in 1963, washed up on an island, and was promptly eaten by cannibals.

I periodically think about how John Nash, the Nobel Prize winning Beautiful Mind guy, lived a whole incredible life and in his 80s died one day on the New Jersey Turnpike because his cab driver tried to pass someone in the left lane.

Catch my ass driving the speed limit in the left lane without a care in the world. Not my problem you want to drive recklessly!

I saw The Simpsons Movie with my band at a mall somewhere in the suburbs of Georgia. Popcorn and soda was self-serve via an honor system.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Surely the people who opposed this will reconsider and admit they made a mistake.

I'm sure the Mets have some kind of plan here, but damned if I can figure it out.

Can't express enough how beautiful a day it is to catch the G to Court Square and walk over to PS1.
MoMA PS1, New York, has announced that entry will be free for all visitors for the next three years starting 1 January 2026 artreview.com/moma-ps1-ent...
MoMA PS1 entry to be free for all in 2026
The initiative is made possible by a $900,000 gift from Sonya Yu

Jeff Kent is (charitably) the fourth or fifth best person named Jeff who ever played for the Mets.

They introduced a new 4 way stop at an intersection around the corner from me and so far it has caused a half dozen accidents because the driving population now seems equally split between people who stop at stop signs and people who don't.
Can't remember if it was this bad before COVID but I'm seeing an alarming spreading of what I'll call Airport Behavior to other public places. Obliviousness to other people's existence, ineptitude at navigating the environment. "Is this your first time at the grocery store" type stuff

In addition to being mostly incoherent plot-wise, Welcome to Derry has some of the worst sound mixing I have ever heard in a television show.

Watching the Ken Burns American Revolution documentary (which is very good) and the defection of Benedict Arnold really has to be one of the craziest stories in American history.

I dunno man, it's a complicated landscape out there but the number of people posting on Instagram (a Meta product) about how you shouldn't use Spotify for ethical reasons is something.

My most listened to song this year? You guessed it: the ska song from Shelter - Beyond Planet Earth

The night Jim McGreevey resigned as governor my band was playing a show in New Brunswick and as we drove our van around town our guitar player rolled down the window and yelled the news at groups of frat bros/sorority sisters like Paul Revere. Weird time.

There's "performative male" and then there's the guy reading a copy of Infinite Jest in front of me in line at the grocery store.

there was a meeting of important people tonight to discuss how to get voters to stop being registered with no party affiliation and get them to register as Democrats and this right here is why people don't want to register as Democrats. who wants to willingly associate themselves with this?

As always on the eve of thanksgiving we commemorate the night my band played at the Court Tavern and I hit myself so hard in the face with my own guitar that I had 2 black eyes.

This also works for DIY punk shows. Mainland Europe has been able to book American bands for decades solely through this strategy.

My votes are DC hardcore and Mormonism
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.
