Cowork is bloody brilliant. I can do the bigger picture thinking while Claude does—actually does— the tedious stuff. Not just telling me what to copy and paste into a document, but updating the document directly itself. Work that would take me all week can get done in an afternoon. I love it!

And here I was feeling sad for the rats. They’re just trying to live like the rest of us 😭

Also on my plate for today: updating my website so I have a cohesive professional persona while still keeping my personality.

So I guess we have to address the elephant in the room...

(I'm sure you've heard that one a million times by now...)

I don't think anyone is NOT doing the reflection, though. I'm constantly reflecting and trying to work out the best way forward. But I also think the answer is to move forward, being careful of the direction, not just outright resisting what's happening.

And how long should we spend on that while students move forward with adopting AI?
January 13, 2025 at 11:42 AM
Based on this, I could see that...
1. The student asked someone else to do the exam for them.
2. This person used #GenAI to answer each question.
3. They had to type the AI responses because they couldn't copy & paste.
4. They started typing 14 seconds in, not taking time to read the case study.

#Turnitin:
I took all the answers, dropped them in a Word doc, and uploaded them to an ad-hoc assignment in TII. More than 80% AI-generated, and the only bits that weren't highlighted were short phrases in tables.

#CanvasLMS:
Using "New" Quizzes (it was New when I worked there pre-COVID), you can look at logs of which questions were answered when and also if the student clicked away from the exam window.

This person (who wasn't the student!) did just that between each question.

What evidence could I collect from these tools?

#TheInvigilator:
- Webcam photos and videos (Are you the right person? Are you alone?) - Not the right person!!!
- Audio recordings (Are you talking or listening to someone else?)
- Screenshots (Are you using other applications on your computer?)

The skilled use of a tool, like a skillet, can result in a charred mess or a beautifully cooked meal component.

Instead of shunning GenAI, surely we should be focusing on honing our skills? (3/3)

Expanding on your analogy, most chefs don't grow/slaughter their ingredients. They also often use tools to help with the cooking process, e.g. food processors. I think it's acceptable to use GenAI as a *tool*, as long as it's used *skillfully* and *intentionally*. (2/3)

I appreciate this thread, and I agree to an extent, but I think the word that's important here is "overreliant". We don't want to become OVERreliant, but I don't think it's realistic to expect everyone to do away with it altogether. (1/3)
