reading the ten commandments in shul and thinking about "thou shalt have no other gods before me."
in the Hebrew, I literally - and crudely - parse it as, "you have no other gods before my face". Which, somewhat dryly, I drashed to myself as "Don't be bringing those other gods around HERE". ...

This last shabbat I chanted the part of Bereshit where God counsels himself that Humans know good and evil now, so they have to leave Eden.
The ra'a, the evil bit, hit really friggin hard in the wake of hamas' attack.
The babies were still in their own wee garden, but evil found them.
