Seems someone just learned a new word based on how many times you've replied with it in this thread! Take your centrist, sensible middle ground nonsense elsewhere. Pretending a fascist and a progressive are the same may make you feel smart but it makes you look stupid at best and malicious at worst.

I really hope so too. Frankly, even if it did stop at trans people, it shouldn't take self interest to stand up for others. For many of us, empathy and solidarity is more than enough. But you're right, nobody ever stops at dehumanising just one group.

I try to tell myself in times like these that eventually compassion and decency always wins, and that ultimately bigots are just people who are so afraid of what they don't understand that they try to rewrite reality to be more comfortable. I also know that this provides little comfort right now.

But the idea that American democracy was somehow founded on principles unseen by mankind until then, and not the latest iteration of something humanity had been attempting in different forms for thousands of years, seems integral to the myth.

As a Brit who had some very close American friends who absolutely adored the show, my outsider's perspective was always that it seemed to uncritically parrot the same tired American exceptionalist tropes in a way that appeared progressive. I also enjoyed it a lot.

This seems hard to enforce, I think maybe we should just weigh everyone on the way into a restaurant and assign portion sizes based on BMI
