I get that, but it's going to be a net negative for MLS. European clubs will be much happier to raid MLS teams for any value they can find, and no player who still has offers in the more profitable European leagues will transfer to MLS. The result is a talent drain.

But they *should.*

(If you're wondering why five by six, it's just math. It's the only way to evenly divide thirty teams.)

The schedule change is never going to happen, because MLS insists on its quixotic pursuit of fans of European football who will never, ever look its way. But maybe they'll at least consider realigning from conferences to divisions one of these days.

It also mostly avoids competition with the twin monsters NFL and NCAA, the 800-lb. gorillas of the American sports landscape. MLS needs American sports fans to add it to their viewing habits to grow. It won't get that going head-to-head with American football.

In this setup, the season can start at the beginning of April and be finished, including playoffs, by the end of October. That's playing only on weekends. With a few midweek matches sprinkled in there's plenty of room for international breaks and other tournaments.

The idea of MLS clubs being players in the global transfer market is laughable. This will result in a net loss, not gain, of talent in MLS.

They could have avoided the FIFA windows by reducing the number of regular season games. Ten months is too long to try to hold fan attention outside of die-hards. Die-hards aren't enough to sustain a league.

There are much better things they could have done. The season needs to be shortened, the league realigned and the scheduling reimagined. This is just going to make it harder to attract mainstream American sports fans. I guess they're resigned to being a niche league

That second half was more entertaining than the entire senior team season.
