So you’re saying a bunch of people are paying into a single fund to pay for the medical treatment of someone else so their life isn’t ruined by a medical emergency?

It’s an interesting concept. 🧐🤔

Supply chain attack hits Linux XZ Utils library, malicious code in 5.6.0/5.6.1 allows remote access. Red Hat/Debian impacted.
This is crazy. The guy was with the project since 2022? And looking at the code, at least part of it was in a security patch, so it would have been backported!

So researchers found out these AI models think in English even when you ask them in French to translate something to Chinese.

It shouldn't be surprising given most of the training set is in English, but it feels remarkably human.

Somehow a server outage took out McDonald's stores across multiple countries. I've seen it written up as the traded off for being so technically advanced. Wrong. You could easily buffer data at nodes along the hierarchy and use edge or fog computing for payment.

The lead in the applesauce poisonings was likely added to increase weight and thus profits.

This is what I've been saying about chocolate. These coco producers are ok with child slave labor, but they wouldn't go as far as adding lead to make more money?

Safari's new HTML switch control has me puzzled… 🤔 Even their own CSS styling examples are nearly identical to what you'd use to transform a checkbox into a switch. Why add this when CSS does the trick? Thoughts?

Elon Musk is starting up Xmail as a Gmail alternative. As someone who runs email servers, welcome to the nightmare dude.

Email is simple in theory, but a maze of complexity in practice. Legacy encryption support, spam battles, and ever evolving standards. Good luck!

I'm loving this story. Chat bot made up its own refund policy and the courts made them honor it. The stupidest part is they were trying to argue that chat bot was its own legal entity.

Musk claims to be fighting the bots, but his fake clicks are at 75%. Everyone else in social media was around 2%. So either he's faking the clicks, or his bot problem is just ridiculous. All these terrible changes in the name of fighting bots and the problem is worse than ever: last year it was 2%!

I don't know if anyone realizes this, but OpenAI did this once before. It didn't have a way to see what it had remembered though, you just had to ask it. So maybe the extra couple months were to develop an interface?

How does raising IPv4 prices speed up IPv6 adoption? We're held hostage by IPv4 end users and forced to pay any price for access to them. I get that supply and demand drive up costs, but claiming higher charges will accelerate adoption is just nonsense.
