I'll never get this mentality. It reads to me like 'I want this mechanic to be awful at baseline and can only feel alive digging through 50 assorted splat books to solve it.'

And the classic 'figure it out at session 0' excuse that reminds me way too much of apologia for laissez faire capitalism.

Sometimes I think about releasing my personal list of house rule tweaks, then I see shit like this, think 'oh God, really?' and remember why I don't.

Is that mean? Is it mean I see a comprehensive revamp and just assume it's going to be bad? It probably is, but I think SOME scepticism is warranted.

Goddamnit Microsoft Authenticator.

Continues to amaze me how people act like standard Athletics actions most strength-based martials will have access to just don't fucking exist. #pathfinder2e

No new pictures, where are you mentally?

Same guy posting across different threads and this is the exact problem I have with the major critiques about PF2e.

It's gatekeeping. It's all gatekeeping from smug elitist fucks who think it's a babywheels system for incompetent GMs when really they just hate what they see as incompetence.

So here's the proposed change I've been planning for Horizon Thunder Sphere.

This has been something I've been discussing with @tabletopobscura.bsky.social ala making 2-round spells worth the casting cost, while keeping them balanced. See detailed commentary below #ttrpg #pathfinder2e #fix-a-feat

This response was a real 'Eureka' moment for figuring out why I like the 3-action economy, but also why I'm becoming increasingly detached from TTRPGs:

It works better than traditional standard -> minor -> move economies when it's disrupted, but most players don't want that. #ttrpg #pathfinder2e 🧵

Comments like the responses in these screenshots (made by the same person) make me less inclined to defend PF2e for the system itself and more because it betrays the onerous, toxic attitudes that permeate the RPG scene and make me want to give up on the whole genre. #ttrpg 🧵

Fuck JD Vance.

Don't bring your bullshit over here. I'd rather have relative safety with one abnormality every few decades than my child risking death from a lunatic with an assault rifle they *legally purchased*, just for *going to school*.

Got Lavos Prime so decided to reward myself with a new coat and go aura farming @warframe.com
December 9, 2025 at 3:22 PM
...but the reality is *PF2e IS the middle ground.* You go slightly either way, you go back to either extreme of just letting the most potent abilities work and trivialising what should be a narrative threat, or you do this *points down*.

Every time I hear Incap is too strict, I have a conniption.
December 9, 2025 at 12:42 AM
This is basically the underlying issue at the heart of complaints about PF2e, but also why fans of the game like myself get extremely frustrated with it:

Because it's wrong, patronising AF, and assumes incompetence and/or hurt ego on the GM's part while giving no culpability on the player end.
December 9, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Like here's a post one of the regular 'I'm just here to argue because I don't like PF2e or it's fans' dudes made today in a thread about AOE.

It's basically 'waaah waaah why don't I get to have all the HDYWTDT moments?'

Seriously. It's so transparently seeking self-aggrandisement.
December 8, 2025 at 4:21 AM
People would rather have Strikemax slop because it makes them 'feel powerful' instead of a game with interesting action options.

This is how we end up ruining games with accurate encounter building tools to appease no-effort gamers, and I'm tired of pretending I don't feel that way.
December 6, 2025 at 11:10 PM
This whole conversation is just a thinly-veiled difficulty level discussion where players want what is their preference as the baseline, and I will die on that hill.

Draft for the cryptic playtest is DONE.

Just needs to go through editing passes for grammar, rules, and preliminary tuning, and then we can start digital aid-ifying it.

I'm excited for this guys, I think some of you are really gonna like what we've got cooking here.

So on less salty, more productive news: looking at Draconic Codex and I LOVE what they've done for dragon pacts, treating them as invested magic items.

Not only do I think it's better design than what they did for Pactbinder and the like, it opens the door for so many ideas. #ttrpg #pathfinder2e

Update *Shayne Topp voice* - turns out I am, in fact, the problem.

Online RPG commenters not seeing healthy emotional boundaries and behaviours as problematic challenge (impossible).
November 25, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Comments like this baffle me because I don't get how people legitimately don't go the entire range from 1 to 5 seeing *nothing* less than a success, *ever*

Are these people doing the math right? Are their GMs just overturning encounters? Do they just have the actual worst luck? #ttrpg #pathfinder2e
