Same. I think the rise of Reform is being underestimated.

Eg. When my son was born we remained patients for two very long weeks. The suggestion was to take a short walk each day to cope with stress/feel better about being trapped in a small space, but this was impossible during building works. Seeing the sunrise was the only saving grace.

This is amazing if it gets over the line! It's been long-awaited. The plan has commonalities with my local hospital (Arrowe Park) in terms of being a construction site whilst still operating - recommend a visit/consideration of patient experiences here to inform a better project in MK.

Was thinking about this yesterday. Whether Reform get in or not isn't the issue anymore (imho) - they've managed to amplify their existence and messaging, and are backed by the world's richest man. We already have flags lining our streets and open disruption of communities - what more in 4yrs time?

If politics are going crazy in several European countries one after the other, I think it is time to go past blaming the failures of individual political actors (and there are quite a few, both in the UK and France) to looking at the systemic pressures our political systems are failing to deal with.

If you are overly focused on the admittedly increasingly batsh*t character of British politics, don‘t neglect the batsh*t character of French politics.

Ah, the famous French work-life balance

Particularly like the bit where Belle holds up the mirror so the crowd can look at the beast...

Loads of layers in Beauty & the Beast that I wasn't expecting. Never seen or read it (but would like to now!)

Out of nowhere, the baby has started blowing raspberries at the TV as Tory party policy is discussed on the news.

Some might say they're both in the fishing industry...!

Late to the party but Vinted is such a great idea.

The struggling high street is often blamed on the pandemic and Amazon but the move - and means - toward moral buying and circularity is also a gamechanger.

I'm pleased to see the stigma of 2nd hand/charity shop stuff transform into a positive.

Very similiar to how gambling addiction takes hold - can seem a quick, harmless flutter but once a few are underway, time disappears and the way the user interacts with others changes. I think it's rare that people with social apps on phones look just once or for a limited (eg 10mins) time/purpose.

Platforms like X and Tik Tok provide the space that is lacking, mean people subconsciously perceive they're being social and 'engage' with news without having to put the effort in to thinking about it across time or depth.

Everything now is a fleeting thought, fleeting feelings, fleeting values.
dantesarcadia.bsky.social
A next step on these is to look at how demands on time in modern society are also influencing and allowing platforms like X and Tik-Tok to flourish. Coupled with closures of 3rd spaces (libraries, local pubs etc) is there daily space and time for people to think about news, meet & discuss ideas?

Here’s another poem for National Poetry Day. This one is called ‘A Brief History of Modern Art in Poetry’.
A Brief History of Modern Art in Poetry

1. Impressionism
Roses sway in softened reds,
Violets swim in murky blues,
Sugar sparkles in the light,
Blurring into golden you.

2. Surrealism
Roses are melting,
Violets are too.
Ceci n’est pas le sucre.
Keith is a giant crab

3. Social Realism
Roses are dead,
Violence is rife.
Don’t sugar coat
This bitter life.

4. Abstract Expressionism
Are and.
Violets roses so.
You sweet blue.
Are are red is sugar

5. Pop Art
Roses go BLAM!
Violets go POW!
Sugar is COOL!
You are so WOW!

6. Conceptual Art
Roses are red,
Coated in blood:
A deer’s severed head
Drips from above

As in, this is my experience on both sides of my family - my northern mum and Scottish grandmother are of the same values and passion for education that my indian family are for the same reasons: education brings you choice, opportunity and those things can support health, wealth, happiness etc.

There's an interesting crossover here with the attitude some migrant families take to education as well - learning and knowledge is highly valued, not just because it's good to know but because of an inherent understanding that learning is your key to opportunity and life chances.

I have this waiting to be read too! Really want to get into a reading habit to model well for Rhys.

My dad fought in the (first) Gulf War in the 90s but Reform want him deported now.

"but that's why we're giving people advance notice of what's coming" - a chilling sentence.

The independence of India/Pakistan came off the back of people in those areas fighting for Britain in WW2 (similar to the birth of Ireland as well post WW1). It's a real shame so many voters don't realise England lost it's empire in order to win WW2. It couldn't have done it without the colonies.

Bit of an extreme way to leave a review! And, niche.

My first boyfriend (Cornish) was big on this! Isn't there some kind of secret society/slightly terroristy group that backs independent Cornwallness as well? We are going back 20yrs and I was only half-listening so this could be completely off.
