Scalzi's new novel is going to be about CYBERNETIC SQUIRRELS. Like, actual robotic squirrels with AI that go rogue, and a secret group of cats must save the day. It's supposedly called 'The Squirrel Protocol'!
It does seem a surprising number of creatures we classified as herbivores/non-meat eaters will eat meat when it's convenient and abundant (or if their preferred plant matter isn't).
