The dismissal was disclosed in statements from three top House Democrats and confirmed by a separate person familiar with the matter.

President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders.

CILIP is concerned that the removal, hiding, and modification of data, research and other information resources by authorities in the USA is already starting to impede the vital work of UK information professionals.

A quick calculation suggests that just like last year it wouldn't be much more expensive than the CILIP conference to fly to the US, stay in a hostel for 5 nights and attend the ALA Conference. Something is wrong if you can attend a much bigger international conference for pretty much the same price
I know conferences are expensive to run, but what is the point of holding it all if the cost effectively stops the vast majority of professionals the organisation is supposed to represent from attending? 👀 @cilip.bsky.social I’m looking at you among others…

I think the only book we had to read that I loathed was The Mayor of Casterbridge 🥱 never even finished reading it, just read the revision guide. I enjoyed pretty much everything else we read
US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?

You know what else costs £715m?

All of England’s nearly 3,000 public libraries for a full year.

*actually it’s a little less but who’s counting?!
So it turns out they spent £715 million on sending a grand total of FOUR volunteers to Rwanda.

For comparison, this is more than you could expect to spend on building an entire brand new hospital in the UK
In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme

I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions
