It's funny because he's almost touching on the world of Art Deco. Reminds me a lot of Biedermeier furniture which is 1810s-1840s but looks almost 1920s-1930s.

Jamaicans came to the UK to help rebuild London post-WW2. How does she think they did that without knowing how to build masonry buildings to a good standard in their own country? I know this as I am from the UK and I have never been to Jamaica. To be from Harvard and not know this is flabbergasting.

'Traditional values' is always a euphemism. Folk like him know exactly what that phase is. His ideas of 'trad values' are being afforded the protections of an upper class slave owner in the 1700s, he thinks that's his kin. He falsely thinks he can ingratiate himself with rich white folk by doing it.

Still, it's going to be a broad media monopoly of TV irrelevant of who owns it. Which will still be flagged by the Competition Commission. Especially given it's 70% of the live TV market.

39.14% of the company. But they have a large say on what is reported on. Particularly in Australia. Where Sky News looks exactly like Talk New or GB turned upto 11.

In U S the death sentence is not a deterrent and actually escalates violence b/c the offenders reach such a point they'd rather do what is referred to as 'suicide by cop' at which point they endanger everyone in the vicinity. Also death isn't a deterrent to desperate people with nothing left to lose

I wonder what the UK's Competition Comission will say given the proposal will mean the M urdoch family would own 70% of all UK TV and 30% of all newspapers?

Doesn't matter what they say or do. The court will either force them to provide care or forcibly remove from their councils the funds that were withheld for it. Like U S tariffs incompetence. I am entirely sure that those making these decisions are just discovering how these things work in real time

Yodel managed to somehow lose an entire fruit tree I ordered from a plant nursery that was as tall as a person. Not even joking.

I'm in the industry & can already see examples of other companies using A I to deliver substandard services to clients. We don't use it at all for obvious reasons, but I've seen so much used by others I can now spot it easily. Their clients are paying architect money & getting unbuildable schemes.

That's going to back fire when they realise that councils have a minimum legal obligation to people with long term care needs. People will just take them to court and forcibly take the money from the councils instead. They really are outstandingly incompetent it's almost fascinating.

Likely personal friends of the people making the proposal. I'm always amazed by the obviousness of comments like that. Would you rather have this Renaissance Revival / French Second Empire Victorian edifice crafted from stone, or some prefab fire risk clad in brick and fake wood? It is but a mystery

I think those panels with the acroterion in them must be specific to him. As I've never seen that specific detail before on classical buildings or even Revival ones. Shows he's definitely inventive as well as referential.

Some acroterions (Greek finials), on the roofs and tops is a very typical ancient arrangement. Where it's really inventive is in those sunken panels. Never seen that before.

He also got the train location wrong. The train wasn't for Huntingdon it was meant for Stevenage. It came from Peterborough to London via Stevenage not stopping. It was only forced to stop at Huntingdon because of what happened. It wasn't even a Huntingdon bound train. They can't grasp basic facts.

Your comparison is right. Where do you even begin with what they're saying.

Have you read Richard Yeboah's From Hackney with Love? Interesting read and looks at the issues from a London perspective. I spoke to him after he wrote it and he's an interesting chap and ironically his mixed school growing up reminded me a lot of my own experience growing up.

The fact this is an 1830s design but looks more akin to a much more elaborate 1890s design shows how far ahead he was for his time in his abilities to design.

The talking heads either live in tax heavens like Dubai, or suburbanites that drive. None of them has ever been on a train. Given this is the first and only incident it's kind since the railways were invented exactly 200 years ago. The odds of this ever happening again are infinitesimally small.

Take care of yourself chap. Thankfully on this platform it's taken a more reasoned approach tbh. I've not seen any nonsense yet. Although the usual suspect politicians elsewhere are doing the predictable.

I didn't say they were. But access via roads is better at Hunts too. Cambridge is on a different line. And ambulances were already at Hunts. I saw all of the coverage of it coming into Hunts posted online. The train was already on the Hunts line. Cambridge is on the Audley End line closer to Suffolk
