I would think it’s some kind of condition thing, her post-breeding moult doesn’t appear to have been as complete as might be expected (retained secondary on each wing, moult contrast in the GCs, etc.)

Apologies to @skomerisland.bsky.social but I’m not sure that’s right. The Bird Atlas 2007-11 refers to one on Flat Holm, Glamorgan, in December 2007 (in the photo caption on p.583).

It’s got a BTO ring on it. Given the vast majority are slapped on pulli or breeding adults, I doubt it originates from anywhere too exotic. Could well be Welsh.
