Jane Chord for Open Throat by Henry Hoke: I hear.

This works. The protagonist, a puma living outside of LA, hears humanity. I can’t review it more clearly without spoilers, but GO READ THIS BOOK. Holy hell. Five stars.

A “first year” parenting reference book just made my average book reading time jump from 8 to 15 days.
🙃
Yeah, I could delete it off my StoryGraph, but I’d rather see if I can get that average down the hard way: read more, faster!

Question for #booktok: when you refer to your TBR, what do you mean?
The books you plan on reading this month? Year? Your lifetime?
The ones you prioritize?

My TBR is over 600 books. I started the list in college. I doubt it will ever shrink significantly! It’s a lifetime list for me.

I picked up Careless People at the library! Finally! I was 834th in line when I requested it.

Will it be worth the wait? I hope so!

Knitting a tank top for the first time!

Simple Knit Tank pattern free on Etsy by Briana Holdstein

I frogged it once already to fix the striping. Yarn was on clearance and I don’t remember what it is! Cotton and mohair, maybe?

I love my book club. We discussed I Who Have Never Known Men.

Many different opinions, perspectives I didn’t consider, moments I missed…

I love discussing books!

I went to the library to pick up one book. I left with three.

This is called balance.

Reread Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry.
A violent, crass, pompous idiot wants to be king and is blindly supported by many: “yes, Papa Shit for long!”

Too timely.

Jane chord for I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman: Since men.

Maybe it works? If we assume the events in the book are because of men’s decisions. The MC has only internal motivation, and it would belittle her to assume it comes from lack of men in her life.

Jane Chord for Death of the Author by @nnedi.bsky.social : What ways.

This works. What ways to we tell stories? What ways to we adapt, evolve, change? What ways to our surroundings shape and inform us? What ways does culture survive?

Jane chord for Deep End by Ali Hazelwood: It arms.

This does not work. The characters are disarmed, if anything; the growth is about letting walls down, not building up resilience.

Jane Chord for On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder: History together.

This works. We current humans need to read history and work together to prevent tyranny. History, together with current context, will inform us greatly.

Jane Chord for Heavenly Tyrants by Xiran Jay Zhao: in mother.

It kind of works. Trying for no spoilers: a “mother” carries much within her that shapes the plot and book. Her trauma, knowledge, and skill are paramount. #booksky #janechord

Jane Chord for House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas: The together.

It works and captures my issues with the book. Couples get together. People get together. Worlds get together. No matter the obstacle. Stakes? They don’t matter. It all comes together nicely. 🤢🤮
