On the bookshop wall, you can see several “postcards” with Russian cityscapes overlayed with real court excerpts describing hate-motivated attacks. You can collect a copy of the Places of Interest postcard by donating any amount to Dataout. The exhibition runs until 5 December.

Perpetrators from different Russian regions, in big cities and smaller towns, began mentioning anti-LGBTQIA+ laws during crimes or in court in recent years. They use the discriminatory laws to threaten the victims and justify their violence. We found seven such cases across Russia.

We uncovered the first known case in which a perpetrator used the "LGBT extremism" law as a tool of extortion. By examining court rulings, we also identified several instances where perpetrators referenced the "gay propaganda" ban.
