This is a complicated question. In addition to not having a complete picture of what has been taken down versus inaccessible versus endangered we also don’t have a full inventory of all the data collected by the US.

From the @icpsr.bsky.social side I have to say that this was a massive lift that would not have been possible without a few incredible folks at USAID (who were RIF'd) and @datafirst.bsky.social. Many thanks to @datarescueproject.org too! It was a pleasure working with you all to preserve these data!

Good news today! All USAID-funded education data - almost 1,000 datasets - have been rescued! We helped out with a hackathon, but big shout out to @icpsr.bsky.social and @datafirst.bsky.social for all of their efforts!

U.S. federal data has been seen as the most authoritative and reliable data for a variety of uses. This is a depressing read but underscores the challenge facing the FSS in retaining trust in the system.

Incredible talk from @datarescueproject.org & @kthlibrary.bsky.social on preservation of public data through conflict, war, and chaos.

Did you know they did a #citizenscience project to photograph interpretive signs across U.S. national parks, preserving an archive of this threatened knowledge?

We are so excited to hear our partners, Citizen Historians for the Smithsonian, on PBS today. The #SaveOurSigns crew & DRP steering comm were active in helping them gear up their project! We love supporting citizen preservation efforts.
