To me it’s one where I feel like some of the solutions are easier to parse since it all runs on cartoon logic so you end up thinking the ways the game wants you to more than a lot of other adventure games I’ve played

All of Gundam is about what it means to throw children into war, but it’s nice to see one that explores it from an angle of them explicitly being child soldiers and laborers who have no perceived use in society outside of this, to the point of using dangerous machinery because they can’t read

But what really stands out is the sense of sorrow and darkness throughout, sometimes the focus, sometimes in the margins, but always there, even in the moments where the joy and light of these characters are abundant. The weight of these events and the character’s lives are ever felt and powerful

I love how fleshed out the world and its history feels, and the ways that Tolkien employs it makes it feel so much like a real place that is being documented by people who have deeply researched it. It’s so clear he was developing Middle-Earth for decades and it truly feels like a full mythology

It’s always weird when people treat games as moral simulations of real life and hate when a story does dark things to characters they know, but especially in this case. This is an early Suda51 game with a reputation of being very dark, so what were they expecting?

I had stretches of that for a long time. It’s so difficult to be able to feel like you can function even for things you enjoy when you know deep inside something is wrong and it hasn’t been fixed

I can understand why they wanted to reckon with the realities of a character like Lara Croft and the consequences that come from it, but idk if you can execute on the premise of the series well while trying to interrogate it at the same time so I’m glad they’re changing focus back to the adventuring

That’s really cool that you can play with the old controls and art! It’s frustrating that’s not the standard for remasters

I’ve been interested in them and just haven’t made the time to play them but I’m definitely going to now (was feeling the itch earlier this week but this news seals the deal for me). Do you think the remasters by Aspyr are a good way to play the old games or should I just play the og versions?

I didn’t realize they announced a remake and a new game, that’s really exciting! (And makes me really want to go play the pre 2013 ones cause I never have)

I think part of it is that the main show is done so any other project they is inherently a side thing to explore the characters or an idea more rather than “here’s the continuation to the main show you’ve been waiting for”
