Weird how generative AI peddlers promised this stuff would usher in some kind of Star Trek post scarcity society and so far all it's delivered is slop content and learned helplessness.

The thing with Candace Owens is that it's hard to know where the performative grift ends and the mental illness begins.

I'm so pissed off about this Google sideloading thing. It's going to destroy the android app ecosystem, and for what? So Google can control even more of the web? Legitimately evil company.
datnofact.bsky.social
How is what Google's doing with sideloading not considered monopolistic since it effectively destroys alternative app-stores like F-Droid?

Google's requirement effectively strengthens their walled garden. If not monopolistic it's definitely extremely anti-consumer.

The annoyances of Windows are increasing while the annoyances of Linux are decreasing and Microsoft are going to keep doing things that are going to reach people's breaking points.

Asmongold is like that Chef from Ratatouille where the rat speaks to him except the rat is dead and it's rotting under his bed somewhere.

Yeah, I still need to boot into my Windows VM on occasion. WinBoat looks promising though. Being able to run Windows apps seamlessly in Linux without even having to think about the VM is where it needs to be eventually.

Windows has coasted too long on casual users fearing switching to an unfamiliar operating system but I do think they're pushing more and more people to their breaking point where the inconvenience of learning to use Linux far outweigh putting up with Microsoft's endless bullshit.

Yeah the future for Android devices looks bleak. A lot of people in the android emulation community are pretty unhappy about it as a lot of emu devs aren't going to want to hard over their person info to google.

I completely agree. I just hold out some glimmer of hope it causes customers to shift towards software that doesn't treat users like this.

The cool thing about Libre Calc is that I can create spreadsheets without having to worry about an AI trying trying to guess what it thinks it should insert into empty cells.

The aggressive forcing of AI into every software product is one of the worst things to happen to software. Rapidly accelerated enshittification.

google wants to introduce errors into my spreadsheets and attribute them to me
screenshot of a popup on Google Sheets with two buttons "Learn more" and "Got it"

header reads "Gemini can now do more for you in Sheets" with "for" scribbled out in red, and the word AS above it, so it says "Gemini can now do more AS you in Sheets"

below that:
Gemini can now make requested changes and insert content directly into your files.

HIGHLIGHTED TEXT: All inserted content will be attributed to you in version history.

For inline features like =Al), Gemini will insert content directly. For the side panel, Gemini will provide a preview first unless it understands your goal is a direct edit, such as making a pivot table or adding conditional formatting.
Gemini in Workspace can make mistakes, including about people, so double-check responses.

Think the last time I paid for a game at launch was Tears of the Kingdom, but only because I'm a huge Zelda fan.

I have over 200 games in my Steam wishlist for this very reason. I have more than enough games in my back catalogue to play and it's rare that a game has me hyped enough that I feel the need to play it immediately.

I'm constantly rewarded for patience with buying games. Every time I really want one, but it isn't on sale... I think about buying it, but then I wait... Usually within a week it goes on sale. Patience friends, that's the ticket. This time? Diablo 2 Resurrected 70% off

OpenAI is spending at a scale that even Silicon Valley can't quite believe, buying up 20 nuclear reactors' worth of computing power this year. But there are big questions around whether it can turn that power into profit.

Yeah so that doesn't work. The Parallel core in Retroarch on Android is outdated so my last remaining options are using an unofficial android build of mupen64plus someone made with the fix (I'd rather not) or trying to stream the game from PC. It shouldn't be this hard to emulate a single romhack.
