It was truly a pleasure to be part of this group. NIGPAS was amazing to visit, and the conveners were generous in opening their long-term work to a broad collaboration. I can't wait to see what comes of it.

I also learned a lot about fossils and some deep cuts of Nanjing history and cuisine.

Excited to report that my long-simmering stratigraphic column rendering tools have finally made it into @rockd.org!

You'll see them on @macrostrat.org soon (and with some awesome new datasets as well)! But for now, lots of stratigraphy just entered your pocket

The biggest new addition is a stratigraphic column display, found in the "stratigraphic unit" tile on the Dashboard and map info panel.

This is still very "beta", but it's nice to finally interact with the time dimension of the rock record, which has been core to @macrostrat.org from its beginning.

Excited to inaugurate this feed to announce the release of Rockd Version 4, our first "major version" update since 2022! This renewed phase of app development was supported by the #AAPG Foundation.

It's mostly internal fixes for now, but there are some fun new features for geological exploration...

Went to Davis for my first @scecinfo.bsky.social workshop (representing @macrostrat.org of course!). Got to see some nice turbidites too! rockd.org/checkin/39704

In Earth science informatics, I have become convinced that the primary purpose of ontologies is to grind all research progress to a halt

it's like NIMBYism for scientific data - please use the correct schema and apply again later

I want to report that we were apparently not, in fact, far apart in Western Colorado in mid July

Beginning to reawaken the socials after a period of dormancy. Attuned to the risk of being burned in the future.

Here's Villarrica Volcano to set the mood. Less ominous rocks to come!
