Just got back from a pre-Christmas Christmas visiting my parents, only to find BvsM in the place we're renting - to the delight of my youngest! 🎄🎄

Finally for the weekend, #TheEvilDead. I know some prefer this original one, but Evil Dead 2 is the one I grow up with, and the better known one

But its been a while since I've watched the original & it holds up. Yes, it won't be for everyone. There's no real logic, but there is a whole lot of fun

Then #NightoftheLivingDead1990, the Tom Savani remake of the George A Romero's 1968 classic, which cover most of the same beats of the original, although Barbara is a lot more bad ass.

I'm a zombie fan, I enjoyed the film, but if I'm reshowing one at the cinema, it's not this one.

No arguments with #FridayThe13th, it is one of the horror classics, a slasher that has been copied many, many times (not least by it's many, many sequels and tv series)

Yes, it's dated, but is still very watchable & skips along at a quick pace. Classic.

Then to the rewatches, which were an interesting selection shown at my local #Omniplex... the classic #FridayThe13th, the 'not as good as the next one' #TheEvilDead and the 'inferior remake' #NightoftheLivingDead1990.

I'm still digesting #AfterTheHunt.

It kept me engaged, I didn't know where it was going to go, & was interested to find out...but ultimately I don't know whether the film itself knew where it was going.

Even though it clocks in at a little under 2hr 30, it feels there's a lot left unseen.

Next up was #GoodFortune, which has Reeves's angel accidently creating a Trading Places/Freaky Friday situation for Ansari & Rogen, whilst also losing his own wings

It's pleasant enough, and the cast seem to be having a blast, but didn't do it for me. Only so-so.

Hawke, Thames & McGraw are all back, but the film tone has changed, from a kidnapping, psycho horror in the first one, to a Nightmare on Elm Street supernatural treat

The setting of Camp Alpine Lake is nothing new, but it's a beautiful setting and the supporting cast help flesh this out nicely

First up, Friday night trip for #BlackPhone2.

I missed the first one when it came out, only seeing it at home last week. And it's a solid enough horror showing.

So, to the sequel with limited expectations, and blown away. There have been some top notch horrors this year, and this is up there.

Finally, yesterday's double bill, #TronAres and #GoodBoy

I've struggled with Tron, I feel I should like it, it's of my era, but I'm not sold on any of the films, including this one

But I will not hear anything bad about Good Boy, Indy is a good boy, he always will be & deserves all the hugs!

Another cautious cinema trip with #AvatarWayofWater

I enjoyed the spectacle of the 1st one, but was underwhelmed with AWoW when I first watched it. But the characters were not as unlikeable as remembered, the oddness of kid Sigourney Weaver wasn't so odd. I'm more optimistic of the next one now

Next up was #Hamilton. A belated cinema version of the stage show, planned for 2021 but released in 2025.

I'm not a fan of musicals & as a Brit was cautious about the rewriting of history, but was engaged & enjoyed the performance - & have listened to the soundtrack since. exceeded expectations

#StrangersCh2 is...ok. The 1st chapter was the standard horror fest, and this one delivers more of the same. Interested to see whether the final one can raise it up.

#OBAA does try to be more, and, for me, succeed, with a messy narrative which keeps you engaged and invested.

Friday off work, so triple bill of #DeadofWinter, #StrangersCh2 & #OneBattleAfterAnother

Emma Thompson can do no wrong, just putting that out there. But playing a newly widowed American who knows her way around the wilderness and is there to save the damsel in DoW...she can do everything.

Next up for strange double bills, #BigBoldBeautifulJounrney & #TheSoundofMusic

BBBJ is a romantic film I can get on board with. Focusing on the baggage we bring to any relationship & whether you accept it or not

TSOM...nuns & nazis. You know what it's about, there's a reason its still got pull

Double bull of #SpinalTap2 & #TheLongWalk

Not the most natural of bedfellow. ST retains the spirit of the original & is a fun watch. TLW naturally has Hunger Games/Battle Royal comparisons, but has the bonus of them not trying to kill each other, & Mark Hamill and the young cast pull it off

A few rewatches, with reshowing of #Matrix, #Alien & #Goodfellows

All classics, but Alien is my pick. Still the best film of the franchise, & remains as one of my top ten films ever, I cannot believe it is over 45 years old

The other two are still great cinema, that's why I rewatched them

Honey Don't! was a nice change of pace. It felt original and fresh, and enjoyable, without holding a huge amount of substance.

Fun to watch Chris Evans play the arsehole.

Loved Thunderbolts, but the Avengers we should have had is led by Clint, who's providing the grounding & emotional support for Wanda & Yelena, having been broken himself & brought back by people he could trust & with a cause to believe in.

The connection he has with both is already there.

Last up, Sunday viewing of #TheRoses.

I have a vague recollection of the 1989 Douglas & Turner film, but I wont claim to know how similar it is to the 2025 film based on the same book.

Really enjoyed this, I already love both Colman and Cumberbatch and their chemistry is perfect.
