Delighted to see this in this weeks updated primary curriculum docs.

A lot of work from the @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social team putting together a strong submission emphasising the importance of cycling to mobility, independence and more.

Thank you to the Limerick Leader for the write up on the Irish Cycling Campaign event this weekend! 🙏🚲

It’s great to see how highly regarded Limerick Council is as a leader in walking and cycling nationally!

Delighted that the requests via the Road Safety Working Together Group by @pedestrianlk.bsky.social & Limerick Cycling have helped contribute to the decision to implement measures for the return of a safe crossing point on O'Connell St!

Well done Limerick Council !

#Limerick There is an important consulation on Thurs 6th March in the Old Dunnes on Sarsfield St. It's about High St / Wickham St and giving the businesses & residents there a better future. They've done amazing work but need this project & the cost of not doing it could be ruinous. (Long 🧵 1/17)

The @LimerickCouncil Active Travel Team are doing great work, but feedback is key to getting the best outcome.

6️⃣ Urban roundabout, not a rural one

The design still leans towards a car-first approach, yet Limerick is shifting towards sustainable transport. A people-friendly design would help meet LSMATS goals & support safer, healthier travel choices.
davetobin.bsky.social
5️⃣ Key to job growth & sustainable transport

The Raheen Business Park is home to major employers like Regeneron, Analog Devices & Stryker. Their future growth depends on better cycling & bus links, making this roundabout’s design critical. Let’s future-proof it.

4️⃣ Cycle lanes & space for active travel

This roundabout is part of Limerick’s cycle network, but the proposed cycle lanes fall below national width guidelines.

Small adjustments could make cycling safer & more accessible for all.
davetobin.bsky.social
3️⃣ Pedestrian crossings & visibility

Zebra crossings over multiple lanes can reduce visibility & increase risk. Best practice recommends crossings over one lane only. A small design change could make a big safety difference. #VisionZero

2️⃣ Lane layout & vehicle speeds

The roundabout keeps dual entry lanes, which can lead to higher speeds.

National guidelines recommend single-lane entries for urban safety. Let’s explore solutions that address current speeds while balancing all road users’ needs.
davetobin.bsky.social
1️⃣ Slip lanes & safety concerns

The design retains a slip lane, which can encourage higher vehicle speeds & create conflict points for people walking & cycling. Could this space be better used for active travel or bus priority?

🚲🚶‍♂️ The Raheen Roundabout is a key junction for Limerick’s cycling & walking network.

Planned upgrades are welcome, but there’s room for improvement to better support active travel. Here’s why your voice matters! 🧵👇 #ActiveTravelLimerick

The yellow route for the Wickham St to Clare St scheme from Limerick Council can’t come quick enough.

The current setup is failing business, shoppers, drivers, and those walking or cycling.

Great news to see the Wickham St to Clare St scheme progress!

It’s an essential piece of the puzzle alongside the Milk Market quarter and Opera projects in revitalising the city centre.

Public consultation in UL Dunnes next Thursday at 6pm!

That’s an absolutely outrageous demand. We can raise this issue as an example of poor behaviour at the upcoming meeting if you want to send me the details via email. 👍

Hey Matthew! Limerick Cycling Campaign started drafting our submission over the weekend. It’s a key piece of the network puzzle and it’s currently an appalling unsafe roundabout for cyclists. I’d strongly recommend that you and your colleagues get in submissions in favour.

Last I heard there were plans but it doesn’t seem to be a priority project.

IMO I think the essential one to get done first in that area is the Baggott Estate project. Once that’s sorted planning will be easier for Rosbrien Rd.

A huge thank you to the Irish Cycling Campaign volunteers who examined the #GE24 manifestos!

We hope this will help inform cycling voters on Friday!
