Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

Fantastic commentary. Every word rings true.

Will the Government step up to put right the sabotage inflicted by Tory appointees? And will it act to put the BBC on a firm long term foundation?
What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Soviet realism.
The Labor Department launched a social media campaign with illustrations that appear to be AI-generated and that almost exclusively feature White men — part of an effort to promote the hiring of American citizens over foreign workers.
Labor Department social media campaign depicts a White male workforce
The campaign has drawn scrutiny, with critics saying it is not realistically portraying the country’s diversity and is sending messages that feel exclusionary.

Great live thread of the minute by minute absurdities of KCC Reform led Council meeting.

Thanks @edjennings.bsky.social for doing this.
Kent County Council is getting underway.

Slightly odd arrangements in place where usual press seats have been closed, leaving us in the public gallery, which has 14 seats. Far more than 14 people are here, leading to several journalists and others being left outside of the room.

But we’re in.

Do we have a large scale rail container terminal that I’ve somehow missed?

Also this isn’t with her powers. And in any case, don’t Reform believe in reducing public sector intervention in private business?
She says KCC has overspent, but far less than other authorities, citing those of other parties that have needed Exceptional Financial Support.

She says they are getting on with filling potholes, and is exploring how to shift more freight in Kent from trucks to rail.

“Misinformation” claims the Leader who promised massive budget savings.

Hypocrite.
The Chair says time has run out for councillor questions, and the rest will receive a written answer.

We now move on to Cllr Kemkaran's Leader's Report.

She begins by accusing Rachel Reeves of "spreading misinformation" about KCC, and she should be working on fixing local government finances.

Cllr Daniel Taylor, currently on bail pending trial over allegations that he threatened to kill his wife, has attended today. Given he missed every other meeting since his arrest, he would have been disqualified as a councillor had he not arrived today.

Another one gone in Kent.

Cllr Isabella Kemp, elected for Reform in May, is now listed as an independent. It is unclear at this point precisely why Cllr Kemp has exited the party.

This means Reform has now lost 9 of the 57 councillors they saw elected only six months ago.

There were 115 prisoners mistakenly released in the final year of the last Conservative Government alone.

Interesting that it only becomes a major national scandal the second these releases can be blamed on a Labour government

Waking up hopeful for the US. Along way to go to the midterms, though. I worry that there’s still a fight to come.
Trump tries to build a fake wall of inevitability around everything he does.

Today, voters - literally from sea to shining sea - broke through all that, and this is just the beginning.

What about it, @cantlabgroup.bsky.social ? Is CCC still on X, and - if you’re not already - should you be thinking about quitting that toxic platform?
"...it seems unsustainable for those who care about British democracy to remain on a platform whose owner is fixated on its very destruction."
I've written a couple of things over the last days about how the government and much of Westminster remaining on X as the platform becomes increasingly toxic is having consequences for our politics...

That should really kill any remaining foreign tourism. Who from the civilized world would knowingly take their kids on holiday to FL after this?
'Asked in an interview whether his office had modeled disease outcomes before his September announcement, Ladapo said “Absolutely not.” Parental freedom of choice isn’t a scientific matter, he said. “It’s an issue of right and wrong.”'

And the rights of the kids? As with so much, they are pawns.
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.
