Although big inequalities by area - which I guess is not primarily a supply issue ? Well, could be supply/comms not serving the shape of population perhaps

There is a good chance that this will be the most important economic fact in all of our lives.

I think it would do people good to spend more time looking at and thinking about this graph.

From the excellent www.gov.uk/government/p...
A graph showing the number of people aged 65 and over per 100 people from around 1950 to present with projections to 2065. The ratio is flat between 1970 and 2010 ish and then starts to increase. The projection is for the ratio to roughly double by 2065.

Yes - I share that suspicion (or at least, both supply and demand) - but I suppose there could be a broader fall in trust/medicine
davewwest.bsky.social
not the point you're raising here - but re the data on falling uptake of several screening progs - are you aware of any good analysis on 'why'?
seems a little different to vaccines, but perhaps the factors are the same

The Health & Social Care Secretary announced launch of pilot scheme where adults waiting for gender services will receive clinical & emotional support. It is fundamentally wrong that so many #LGBT+ people still face challenges when accessing #healthcare

Claire has overseen a period of pretty substantial (unprecedented?) growth in spending on mental health services ... Yet it's miles away from meeting need and demand

The commitment to that growing investment now very clearly at an end

Yes v well put. I agree. And agree with them there should be 'transparency' even if the vast majority of public aren't interested.
Could well be a bit of performance benefit from it, short term, in senior management response, to the signal.
Still think they could make it a little clearer though
davewwest.bsky.social
useful-ish...but also un-useful, since it renders the league tables kind of more or less completely unreadable and use-less !

ALERT!: we need a statistician!
davewwest.bsky.social
Someone on LinkedIn is asking for a version of this on the MH/community trusts - in case you fancy drafting that up...
davewwest.bsky.social
This doesn't answer the Q as far as I'm concerned, BUT: apparently stakeholders were told DHSC/NHSE wonks had asked the Royal Statistical Society (I think), who said some of the performance variation was so small it could be by 'chance'. Hence this CI method was recommended/used.
Still baffled 🤷‍♂️

To be fair the Framework itself makes no claims that it is for patient choice - simply that publishing it is 'to support transparency'.

I knew you’d ask! From DH method u posted it seems the source of variation (needed to generate CIs) comes from variation in services trusts’ provide. Bootstrapping (10k repeated sampling of data) can generate a mean etc from which CIs can be calculated. Please can a proper statistcian explain!
davewwest.bsky.social
I'd kind of like to understand it slightly more though... It is real performance not estimates or probability so why do you need CIs at all ? And what's all this about living alternative indicators : these are the chosen ones !
davewwest.bsky.social
this should clear things up

bottom of the league? it's not so bad, you might actually be nearly top of the league
