In tomorrow’s Herald: Kevin McKenna on how the Ku Klux Klan is turning over a new leaf with its charity work.

'There’s a feeling too that the Orange Order has acted in good faith and in the spirit of One Scotland Many Cultures; that they’ve moved into those values and helped advance Scotland’s reputation as an inclusive, diverse and tolerant nation' || Kevin McKenna 👇

Well, quite. A racist indifference to Palestinian suffering is absolutely endemic in the UK elites.

But the article suggests that Starmer is planning to expand the definition of what would be an arrestable offence, the specific example cited being chants referencing ‘intifada’. This is something new.

Can you explain what you mean by “aggressive integration policies”? I’m in favour of integration, but forcing people to conform to a single, state-mandated idea of Britishness sounds pretty un-British to me.

She’s a walking advertisement for abolition of the honours system and an appointed second chamber.

If Michelle Mone has "no wish" to return to the Lords as a Tory peer, as reported this weekend, she should probably stop boasting about being a baroness
Her website landing page: Baroness Michelle Mone of Mayfair OBE

It’s hard to believe, but immediately after this bonkers rant from Badenoch, the Tories actually debated a resolution demanding stronger legal protection for freedom of speech. As we know, they only mean free speech for themselves.

Journalists’ minds are governed by very short time horizons. It used to be the 24 news cycle, now it’s whatever crap is currently trending on Twitter. I doubt they think about it at all. They’re too busy obsessing about the next click.

This is spot on. The only I would add is that this spiral of madness is being turbocharged by a national media that is also increasingly unhinged and vastly exaggerates the public demand for these policies. Westminster is trapped in its own reactionary bubble.

British politics is basically a doom spiral of increasingly unhinged hostile policies.

Reform says something unhinged
⬇️
Labour counters with their own unhinged policy
⬇️
Tories shout from back they'll be even more unhinged
⬇️
Reform announces different unhinged proposal in response
⬇️
And repeat...🔁
david-k-clark.bsky.social
That may be true, but the sensible point of the article is that Reform UK’s strength is being exaggerated by an over-excited media.

Indeed, but I expect NATO will look at an asymmetric response that raises costs to the Russian elite without impacting ordinary Russians’ perceptions of their own security.
david-k-clark.bsky.social
It’s my assumption. He clearly wants a response.
david-k-clark.bsky.social
I think a limited confrontation is what Putin wants. He aims to use a clash with NATO to create a war psychosis at home and justify a wider mobilisation by arguing that Russia is being threatened. I least, I thinks that’s what he’s doing.

The police are now forced to choose between prioritising an actual terrorist threat or continuing to police a fake terrorist threat invented by the government. A dangerous diversion of anti-terrorism resources was always a likely consequence of this exceptionally foolish policy.

“Police ask for protest against Palestine Action ban to be postponed after Manchester attack

Organisers say protest will go ahead as planned and it is up to Met whether or not it prioritises arrests”

The police are welcome to use resources elsewhere 🤷

What was it John Major said about crime? Understand less, condemn more. That should be the only acceptable response to racism.
david-k-clark.bsky.social
Another reactionary centrist trying to shift politics to the right by wagging his finger at anyone prepared to call racism by its name. People like this are a menace, and our political/media elites are now stuffed full of them. Also, what does the NS think it’s doing publishing this tripe?

My advice to all the Russian officials and operatives tasked with rigging the election in Moldova is to stay away from windows in high buildings for a while.
gylesnamopaleen.bsky.social
yep and Our Party on 6%.

It's estimated Putin pumped $400m into trying to steer Moldova away from the EU.

that's gotta hurt.

The US fully deserved its Ryder Cup defeat, not least for the appalling behaviour of the home crowd. Trump created a mob in his own ugly image - boorish, arrogant and unsuccessful.
david-k-clark.bsky.social
Trump loses the Ryder Cup. Putin loses Moldova. A very satisfying evening all round.
